The Pain Of Not Exercising Is Much Worse Than The Pain Of Exercising

Saturday, May 18, 2013

It's really true. Who knew? Before I started moving every day and sitting in my recliner because it was easy, it hurt to do just about everything. If I stood too long, my legs started going numb. I didn't need a medical degree to figure out that all the excess weight I was carrying combined with no core strength was putting undue pressure on my discs and pinching nerves.

I started moving slowly. VERY slowly. At first all I could do on the treadmill was about 15 minutes. 5 minutes warm up, 5 minutes at a slightly faster pace, and 5 minutes cool down. I started building up an extra 2 minutes every week and then all of a sudden it jumped to 30 minutes. What???? How did that happen? This morning I did 45 minutes. Now granted, I'm not running - just walking briskly, but this is progress, folks! I am almost 60 years old and I am just thrilled to be feeling so much better, so much healthier and so optimistic.

I look forward to the new activities I'll be adding to my routines. Yes, I'll be sore. Yes, it won't be comfortable at first. Suck it up, Cupcake. I'll get through it and be better for it. Spark on!

Woo Woo! that's so cool - that you are walking three quarter's of an hour at a time now!

It's amazing how fitness compounds upon itself. You go girl. there's nothing stopping you now.

emoticon I am so happy for you. I totally understand. Before I started this journey, I had tons of lower back pain. But, you know, the more I worked out the less pain I had. Who knew?

Way to go! It takes courage to get started when it hurts and you haven't really moved in a long time. I am so glad you are seeing such wonderful reward for your effort; you surely deserve it.

Well done! At last I did some cardio today after 3 weeks out of action with tummy bug followed by flu. And I feel great.
You have plenty of time ahead, I've just reached 70, so expect less! But I'm making the most of it!

Your entry caught my eye, so I just wanted to stop and say hi. I've rejoined today and completely agree on your strategy.

So happy to hear you are making progress!! Thanks for the reminder that we all can do little steps - we dont have to run a marathon (ever wonder who thought that up anyway?) to make progress!!

Best wishes on your journey to good health!
