Thought and Prayer for Saturday, May 18, 2013

Saturday, May 18, 2013

Our thoughts do control our actions. We find ourselves regularly thinking about certain things. Whatever our mind is on the most is usually what we put first in our lives. We think about these things, get obsessed about them and work toward them rather than God. However, we need to get obsessed with God. We need to go to our knees and ask Him what we can do to stop the obsessive thoughts and actions with things of the world that will just bring us temporary pleasure and comfort.

Colossians 3:2 “Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we know that only You can give us true pleasure and comfort. We know that we should think about the things of Heaven and not of this world. When we stop every day and spend time with You realizing how great You are and all You have for us, the things of the world will grow dim and uninteresting. Help us today, Lord, to put You first in all we do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We should continuously be aware of our thoughts. They do drive our actions.

When we think about the things of the world or all the problems we have, we will soon find that we are miserable.

Knowing God wants us to be happy is one reason we shouldn’t be obsessed with the things of the world which will never bring us true happiness.

Whatever we have been thinking about today is controlling our lives.

God tells us not to think about the things of the world but instead think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (NLT)
