vet visits and tears

Friday, May 17, 2013

Today is a very sad day at my house. I had to put one of the kitties to sleep.. Katrina was my brother's cat and she was a warrior in that timid personality of hers.. Katrina died from kidney failure today.. Rest in peace my brave little warrior.. Her sister is missing her terribly.. Ursula.. as we all are.

Now for more news about my beloved Skippy dog.. We went to the vet for the annual checkup and heartworm testing. Well come to find out Skip has glacoma in his one eye and has very limited vision in the other. So my vet Dr. Anderson said that because of Skip's glacoma in his eye ( the vitrious fluid doesn't drain like a human eye) it is causing pressure on his optic nerve( like having a migraine everyday).ICKY!!!

So I asked about what we can do for the little guy.. Dr. Anderson said that the best thing to do for Skip is eye surgery to remove his eyes. Or to keep him a drugged up pup.Skip can't see anyway and has adjusted amazing well. So after crying for a day or two I have decided to go the eye surgery route for the little guy will be so much happier and will start playing again with his stuffies.. and his little head won't hurt( no migraines)

I know that a lot of people would say"just put Skip down" but Skip still has a lot of years ahead of him and I want the best for my pup and to enjoy the rest of his years pain free.

I'm sorry for your loss. Our old fat cat, Magic, died last January. We got another kitten so our other cat has a playmate, but nothing can replace Magic. Each pet has its own unique personality. Katrina will live on in your memories, and your funny stories of her. (Magic was about 19 - I'd had him for 16 years. Both my husband & I referred to him as our "buddy." So yeah, I get that.)

thanks for all the kind thoughts about Katrina, they mean a lot to my brother. She was his warrior kitty and they were buddies.. :)

Skippy is doing better on his pain meds... he is so funny about 4pm it is time to "see" his buddies on his walk.

I am so sorry about the loss of Katrina and for poor Skippy who is facing surgery. I would never say to just put Skippy down, and I'm so happy you've decided to go for the surgery and let him continue to enjoy life. We paid for Thor's surgery almost two years ago knowing full well that his cancer would be hard to cure, but at least it's given him more time and he's still comfortable and happy. I'm praying that Skippy's surgery goes well. Please keep us informed.

It is very hard to lose a pet. They are part of the family.

I wouldn't put the guy down if he is otherwise in good shape. I hope his discomfort is relieved. So sorry about your kitty. Losing our beloved pets is so difficult. Bless you! emoticon

So glad that I am not a dog or they would of taken my eyes. Yes I have glaucoma and one of the nerves in my eye is not shaped like it is suppose to. I take drops to bring down the pressure.

So sorry for your loss of the little kitten
