In hindsight

Thursday, May 16, 2013

Just got back from a 12hour shift at one of my new PRN jobs. I really like being a per diem nurse. So far I have 3 nursing homes I freelance for and I love it. I am getting enough sleep. People are being really nice to me. I have another interview for another PRN position tomorrow. Roughly I am a free lance nurse. I don't have any benefits but the benefits in long term care are terrible so no loss. I really can see myself doing this for the rest of my career. I love the feeling of not being owned by one place. They also know they don't own you so they management seems to be less aggressive with you. They don't have a lot of power of you because it the bosses start being jerks to you you just don't take days from them. Whereas if you are on the staff, I have found that they feel they can say whatever they want to you. So in hindsight I am really glad that I left my last full time job. Cheers, Keith

emoticon i so understand what you mean. There is also a bright side to working casual and you've found it! And gee, there's nothing ironic about poor benefits for those who work in the health care field! There is so much to be said about feeling in control. It's much like this Spark program: you make the decisions; nobody tells you exactly what to do. For me, there is a lot of freedom in that.
