The HIV virus can be damaging to our body and even deadly. We all have another type of HIV which stands for hobbies, idols and vices. These three things can be just as damaging to our lives as the HIV virus. When we put hobbies, idols and vices above God, we can become sick with the obsessions of the things of the world. Just like the virus, our habits and thoughts will slowly change to what we want to do rather than what God wants. The treatment for the virus may or may not work but the treatment for our actions and thoughts are determined by our choices. We can choose to turn from our wrongdoing, repent and return to God. We can choose to not be HIV positive.
Ezekiel 18:30 “Therefore, I will judge each of you, O people of Israel, according to your actions, says the Sovereign Lord. Repent, and turn from your sins. Don’t let them destroy you!” (NLT)
Dear Lord, please cure us from HIV. Help us to recognized what hobbies, idols and vices we are putting in the place of You. We know these worldly things can’t give us what You can. We know that we can’t do Your will and serve others when we put our needs first. Help us to use our hobbies to serve others. Help us to turn away from our idols and vices. We want to turn away from obsessions today, repent for doing wrong and return to You. Please take us back into Your arms. Love us, protect us and show us the way. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we find that our hobbies are taking more time and money that what we are giving to God, then it’s time to rethink what we are doing.
Anything we put before doing God’s word is becoming an idol in our lives. It’s time to clean house and remove those idols.
The vices we have may not seem like vices at all to us but we need to examine our lives and be sure they are not keeping us from doing God’s will.
We need to really think about what we are always thinking about and determine if it is what God wants us to think about.
Colossians 3:2 “Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” (NLT)
Talking about what is right to do and not doing it does not set the example God wants us to set.
James 4:17 “Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.” (NLT)
