The unexpected hazards of weight loss

Thursday, May 16, 2013

Yesterday was a big day for me. I reached two exciting milestones: first, I weighed in 70 pounds less than I did when I started this journey so many years ago. Only about 44 of that is "new" loss (since I got serious again in January), but I'm very pleased with my progress.

I also managed to run my fastest mile ever at 11:05. I tried so hard to beat 11 minutes, but it didn't happen this time around. I'll just have to push harder next time! I still really hate running, but a mile is a great distance because it's easily manageable, so I think I'm going to start trying to run a fast mile every other day and see how I progress.

So now a funny / embarrassing story:

Yesterday, as I was walking back into my house with my hands and arms loaded with groceries, my pants fell down! Luckily I was behind a bush, so nobody saw me, but clearly it's time for some new summer bottoms. It's a dilemma, though, because I really don't want to spend money on clothes I won't be wearing that long. I'm at an odd size, so the thrift shop offerings are sparse, but I think I'm just going to keep looking there until I find stuff that will work.

What a great blog! Such hazing inspirational milestones to achieve! Maybe you could invest in a sewing class and get an old sewing machine to tailor your clothes! I think that is what I am going to try!
Way to go on your mile!
    Congrats! emoticon

WooHoo congrats on the big 70.

My pants are always sagging but haven't fell off yet - I only buy from thrift shops or consignment shops - that is my plan until I hit and maintain a weight

Luckily, I haven't had my pants fall down yet, but I definitely need to start shopping for smaller clothes too. I need to check out some 2nd hand stores soon.

I laughed out loud while reading your funny story and my five year old came over asking what was so funny. I explained to him that I was reading about you losing so much fat your pants fell down. He starts laughing too. Thanks for the laugh!!

Great work on your weight loss! Obviously you are doing something right if your pants are falling down!

Oh and belts help. Also, when you do finally buy new, if it suits you, buy the smallest size of skinny jean with lots of spandex that fits you. I am still wearing some that are now 2 sizes larger than my current size. They went from being skin tight to comfortably loose and still look good -- and still stay up! (But I know that style is not something that everyone likes to wear. I thought I'd mention it just in case.)

LOL. I had that problem yesterday also. I found a belt I could put on to help them stay up. I still found my self pulling them up about every five minutes. I don't want to spend the money yet either. Have fun and find a belt or scarf to tie around them. emoticon emoticon

I can't wait till my pants fall down! emoticon

I bought a bunch of drawstring shorts when I was pregnant last summer. They're huge on me now, but I just tie them tighter. Luckily I don't have to worry about work clothes since I'm a stay at home mom, I can't imagine how expensive it would get to have to keep changing my wardrobe!
