Love you, Dad

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

My Dad died this afternoon at 1:20 pm. He was surrounded by family: my Mom, two sisters,a brother and several grandchildren, as well as their well loved parish priest. He died the way he lived...giving and receiving love. We were so fortunate to have him with us for so long, and knowing his love continues to watch over us gives us all hope and courage.

We will be having a celebration of life for him in two weeks. Takes that long to try and get all of us together when you have a big family. It will be like my Dad wanted it, no suits, no black, "uniform of the day" is to be Hawaiian shirts and California casual, with lots of laughter among the tears.

We made the arrangements when I was there two weeks ago about where he will "rest". Their parish since the 80's has been San Luis Rey Mission, and there is a historical cemetery as part of the complex. He has been telling everyone about the new "condo" we got him and Mom. It is only two miles from where they lived with my sister, and where they go to church several times a week. All their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are so pleased to know how happy he was with these arrangements. He even joked about their new condo having no association fees, free grounds maintenance and no windows to clean.
You can tell we deal with a lot in my family with humor.

Thank you for your prayers, they surely have been answered. Please keep my Mom, Shirley, in your prayers as she now must adjust after 67 years of being together with him. But her faith is strong, and she has lots of love and support.
And as she says, she knows she will be joining him, having warned him he better be right there when it is her turn.

I said a prayer for you, the family and your wonderful dad, now at rest.
I lost my father in February. It's hard. We have a big family too, and what a comfort to rally together and say "goodbye" as a family.

    hugs to you,

Sounds like Heaven is getting a wonderful addition to their "fleet" of angels! His send off sounds suspiciously like that which I have planned for myself when my time comes in about, oh, 30 or 40 years! This message comes with love and hugs to the whole family.

How lovely that you can celebrate your father's life, tears mixed with laughter and
memories is 'good' medicine. I have always considered a sense of humour a great
blessing. it gets you out of so much pain at the time you need it most.
Your Dad will be with you in spirit as you celebrate his life, Enjoy him!!

    God Bless.
