Its been about a month and a half since I've tracked and exercised consistently. I haven't weighed since the end of March--I've been avoiding the scales. I've also been avoiding mirrors. And my pants are really tight. Its getting pretty bad.
So we finally moved into the new apartment. I am LOVING it here! Its a little smaller than what we were in before. Well, there is more square footage, but less storage space. We have the entire top floor of the building we are in. There is a window in every room and its so bright and airy and open. It is so much better than where we were before. The apt we were in before felt dark and cave like. All I wanted to do was lay on the couch with the curtains closed. Something about that place just sucked the energy right out of me. It was very secluded, too. There really wasn't anything around there--you had to drive everywhere. In the new place, we are right in the village with all the shops and people. There's lots of stuff going on and I feel more energy. It makes me want to get up and do something. And all the windows with natural light and warm spring breeze just completes the place. The cats are loving all the windows and people too. They spend most of their time on the window sills watching everyone and everything going on outside. And the best part is that the apartment is just a few yards from the Erie Canal! It is SO BEAUTIFUL! My sister lives a block away and since we moved in a week ago, my sister and I have walked along the canal twice! I love it!
I love being by the water. This is definitely what I needed to inspire me to get more exercise in. Today my sister and I walked 4 miles along the canal! Sadly, she's moving at the end of the month. But I can totally see myself walking/jogging after work most nights! Woo!
So anywho, back to the topic of this blog...
We had a "health fair" today at work where they take your height/weight, blood pressure, waist/hip measurements, cholesterol. and blood glucose and show you where you fall and offer ways on how to get healthier. I was really interested to see where I fall because it has been soooo long since I was on track and losing weight (a year). I've gained 25 lbs since this time last year, I haven't been eating as well, and I haven't been exercising consistently. I wanted to see what damage I had done.
To my surprise, I didn't do all that bad (or at least as bad as I had thought). Here are my numbers:
Weight: 172.00 lbs
*this number was expected and already known
Blood Pressure: 128/90
*Not bad, on the high end of normal, but I had just finished walking an entire parking lot and up a flight of stairs before having my blood pressure taken
Waist Measurement: 35 inches
Hip Measurement: 44 inches
Waist-to-Hip Ratio: .79
Waist-to-Hip Ratio Goal: .80
*I was only .01 away from goal here. I was really cutting it close, but I didn't do bad!
Cholesterol Goal: Less than 200
*Woooo hoooo! I had never had my cholesterol taken before so I was really afraid of this number. To my surprise, my cholesterol is FINE! It looks like even though I think I'm eating horribly, my food choices must not be as bad as I think they are
HDL Goal: Greater than 50
*YAY healthy cholesterol!!! I win!!!
TC/HDL Ratio: 2.5
TC/HDL Ratio Goal: Less than 5.0
*I have no idea what this is, but I'm at goal! Woo!
Blood Glucose: 64
Blood Glucose Goal: Less than140 (non-fasting)
*THIS ONE IS MOST EXCITING!!! My mom had type 2 diabetes, which means I am at risk for developing it. My parents have always been afraid that I would develop it if I didn't get my weight under control. After gaining 25 pounds back this year, putting myself back into the "obese" category, I was afraid my blood glucose would be out of control. To my surprise, my blood glucose is fine!
So, there we have it. The proof is in the numbers. I look forward to next year's fair--I really want to see what my numbers look like next year. I need to work on losing 50 pounds and getting myself back in the "normal" BMI category. That will get my Waist-to-Hip Ratio down to the lower end of my goal.
Today I stayed on track with calories, I exercised, and I got all my water in. Today was a great day!
