A Heroine I Can Relate to

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

I am a big fan of GAME OF THRONES on HBO.
And I really enjoy the Brienne of Tarth Character.
Brienne as a “study in heartbreaking contradictions. She embraces the romantic ideals of her culture, both emotionally and through her actions, but is continually betrayed by the real world simply because she cannot turn herself into the woman the Westerosi legends tell her she should be.”

here's a video clip..."Brienne and Jaime have been captured. They both know she's going to die, that's why he can barely look at her in the eye. But then, instead of pleading for her life or getting angry at him she just asks him to fulfill the promise they both made - and not only does she seem to trust the word of the man with the vilest reputation in the Seven Kingdoms, she calls him by his name (and with his title too) for the first time. "

So many of us do not fit into the world's idea of what attractive is supposed to look like. Unfortunately, the world can often be cruel to people who don't fit in. But here is a heroine who's sense of honor, tolerance, intelligence, and inner strength makes her truly beautiful.

when I grow up ... I want to be just like her emoticon If I grow up

I bought prepackaged whiting fish today....and I have Tilapia in the freezer.
Looking forward to increasing my culinary skills with seafood.
I plan to adjust the recipes to suit my diet goals.

My veggie quota is still going strong.
getting my 6 servings of veggies (plus some fruit).
I've been doing without starch ...except for go to snack.

have a great day

Yes, I like Game of Thrones myself. There are a lot of heartbreaking characters in this show that are proving today's media WRONG! Tyrion the small person, Sam (I believe) the obese young man, and of course I forget her name but the young girl (princess) that dresses like a boy to survive and again I forget or more like cant spell the young targarian blonde dragon Queen. no one take them seriously because of their looks and gender.

Boy can I relate being 46yo and 5'1" people still don't take me seriously. I have a business degree, master degree several certificates and plenty of experience but I am small. Oh and now I am fat and old to boot! Oh well such is life!

Yes, it is a great show!

I always wonder what is on HBO as we don't get it and the other premium channels.

I love fish. It's actually my favorite protein. I should eat it more often but my husband is not as in love with it as I am. He likes it fried and I am not into frying stuff.

Good job on the veggies and the starches.

Another thought provoking blog! You really make me think about things. and no, not how to cook fish, LOL... Although that is also important! You are doing so well in this challenge! WOO HOO!!!

I have a simple recipe for fish that I love... sauté some onion and carrots cut small until they are the tenderness you like. Put each piece of fish on a piece of foil or parchment paper. put the veggies on top, sprinkle with some fresh dill, and add one tablespoon of white wine. (I buy those little 4-pack of bottles for cooking and then you don't have to drink the whole thing once it is opened) Seal it up and bake at 375 for about 10 to 15 minutes depending on the size of the filet and the denseness (i.e. salmon takes longer than tilapia). Easy peasy and SO yummy!

Love Tilapia! It's my favorite fish. My favorite way to prepare it is super easy. You just crush some pistachio nuts (about 2 TBSP per fillet) and throw it on top of the fish. Bake it for about 20 minutes and it's delicious and pretty. I've served it to company many times and they always want the receipe. It doesn't get any easier than this. Enjoy!!!

After school, my son and I went through his year book and talked about all of the girls that were really beautiful on the inside that his classmates did not appreciate because they did not fit the media's idea of beauty. I was so proud of listening to him describe all of their positive attributes and comparing them to how shallow the "hot" girls were. He is not interested in dating yet, but he gives every indication he will make the right choices when he is. I wish the media would portray more women with true inner beauty.

I've read all the 4 or 5 books of 'Game of Thrones' and I'll probably watch it when it comes out on netflix but it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. This is not happily ever after story for anyone. I came away thinking at least something good should have happened but NO.

  Hi Sheryl.........
We don't have HBO, but I have heard such good things about this series, that I plan to rent it when it is available. I prefer to do it that way anyway, because I don't have the patience to wait for the TV schedule.
You are so correct re: the "Beauty Mold" and what happens if you don't fit it. What is sad is that it starts at a very young age. It is heart-breaking to watch little kids judge each other by what they look like and what they are wearing instead of what kind of friend they are or how they treat others. Don't get me started. I taught for many years and saw way too many instances.
Have a great week.......

I have 2 favorite ways with tilapia. One healthy, the other not so much.
1. Place juice of a lime or lemon in a frying pan and heat. set the filet in the juice. Sprinkle with an herb blend. I like a Spanish blend from Penzeys spice.
Flip after a couple of minutes and sprinkle again. Cook another couple of minutes till white and flaky.

2. Set up an assembly line with
a. almond meal
B. beaten egg white
c. smashed baked potato chips (or chips of your choice or chopped pecans)

Place 1 T favorite oil in a hot frying pan. I use 1 T coconut oil for 4 filets.
Dip both sides of the filet in the meal, then the egg white, then the chips.
Place the filet in the oil and push to a free place. Continue with the other filets. Fry on each side about 3-4 minutes, allowing time for the meal and chips to turn golden brown. Sprinkle lightly with salt as you take them out of the pan.

It's tough how people are treated when they don't fit into everyone's idea of what they should be.

I love seafood, have fun trying your new recipes!
