Setback and Job Decision

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

I woke up wanting to run this morning. It was in my heart and soul - wanting to go, go, go, free. But when my feet hit the floor this morning, a whole section of muscles rebelled and told me that today is not a running day. Yesterday while trying to take an easy walk break from work, I tripped on uneven sidewalk. Almost fell. Caught myself, but immediately experienced a sharp pain. Darn. Setback.

I was hoping to run another 5K on June 1st and start half marathon training shortly after that. We'll see.

Thanks to all of you who made suggestions about my job opportunity. So far so good on that issue. I believe I can contribute without stressing myself out. For May, I'm working in the office as a volunteer three days only, and the acting director can call or e-mail me with questions. Although it is flattering to know there is paid employment available if I want it, I am affirming that I want to remain a retiree and caregiver to my grandkids!

I hope you get back on track soon and the kink is just that.... a little kink that goes away again. You are great to put your family first. Your grandkids will enjoy that decision, I am certain :)

I hope your body is feeling better soon. Nothing worse then wanting so badly to run and being held back by your body.

Thank goodness you didn't actually fall! Making job choices is difficult at best and you've made the decision that is right for you. Kudos to you for sticking by your decision!

    OOOH Marsha,
sorry to hear about your near fall. I had my left knee swell and be uncomfortable, not quite painful, for over a week, and I have not idea why.

I wish I knew what I wanted to do.. I am bored silly, even with being able to read, crochet, or walk whenever I want. So, today, I went looking for work and set up a couple of appts. Even applied for a 20 hr. week job as an admin asst... I was so focused on Money all my life, it seems weird to not NEED it (or at least I don't think I do - maybe others know something I don't) now I need to figure out what I WANT to do for a change.
Hope you feel better soon.

Good call on the job front... it's YOUR life, and you have to hold to your own priorities. Sorry about your tumble, and wise choice to give it time to recover before running! Wishing that process to be a speedy one, of course!

Hope your leg isn't too bad. And I SO agree with you. Retirement for me means NOT to be broken emoticon

Hope things start turning back in your favor...if it makes you feel better, I also have had just the worst couple of negative days!

Have a GREAT evening, Marsha!

I sincerely wish the fastest recovery, Marsha! I also feel ya on the job front! Yep! I am on 3 City Committees and will work part time for American Running Company at min wage...cause I can!
A healthy stress-free environment where I can get the best education on proper gait analysis and runner shoe fitting.

So very sorry you hurt yourself, may you heal fast, and with your clean living, you probably will.
That is wonderful you can contribute to your old position and is very flattering they want you back, but I dare say the most important position in life is being a Mother, and it looks like you were made for that job! I will bet your grandchildren will miss you for those three days you are in the office..

Hoping the pain is better today. Tripping at any age gets your attention. I don't blame you for pulling back from a job. Enjoy retirement AND your GC.
