A WOO HOO for my Wonderful Husband!

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

My husband is on a PEG tube feeder and has not had anything to eat by mouth since early November 2012. Today he had his modified barium swallow study at the hospital and tomorrow he will start having breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining room of his rehab facility! It will be nectar thickened liquids and pureed soft foods. HUGE accomplishment for him!

My week is going well healthy eatingwise, hitting my daily calorie, carb, protein, water, vegetable/fruit and fat targets. I have upped the exercise from ten minutes per day to twenty five this morning. Tonight my right knee is stiff and sore, possibly a combination of the ramped up exercise and the pending thunderstorms in our forecast. I put some Theragesic on it and will be ok.

Onward & Downward! emoticon

Congrats for your husband!! I remember when my mom had to take a test on swallowing before she could move from the pureed food to solid food. We prepared her for the test that she was going to take and even with our explaining it she didn't quite get it other then the fact that she knew it was an important test to pass. She passed it and then her next meal (which was actually a snack at a birthday party in the rehab facility) she totally understood what she had passed.
