Selling the condo and starting our bicycle ride....

I've been pretty quiet here on SparkPeople, but I've been very busy the last couple months.
My husband and I spent a lot of time this cold March doing work on the interior of our condo to get it ready to put on the market. We moved a small U-Haul's worth of stuff down to our house in Tennessee and donated/tossed out about as much stuff. The result was that our condo looked very spacious with all the closets and shelves less than half full. We got some interior painting done and put in new carpet in the basement.
As soon as the snow melted (around the end of March), we planted pansies and got lots of hanging baskets as well as some pretty indoor plants. We moved furniture around to make every room look as spacious as possible. We also bought a few pieces of nice (but not too expensive) outdoor furniture so we could create seating and eating areas on our patios.
Even though the exterior of our condo is the responsibility of the condo association, we had some left over exterior paint from a remodeling we did a couple years ago. I went around and touched up the outside with the exterior paint.
It appears all our hard work has paid off. We had lots of showings and were able to get the condo under contract in about 35 days from when we started listing it. The buyers seem very nice. I hope they are happy with the place. The closing is about five days after my husband's last work day before retirement. That is perfect! I couldn't have asked for a better date. We will move all our remaining stuff to Tennessee over the weekend before the closing.
Now that we have our condo under contract, we can start thinking about an earlier date to leave for our BIG BICYCLE RIDE around the country. We were orginally planning on leaving in September and starting in Washington state going down the Pacific coast. We made that plan thinking that we would want to keep the condo staged over the summer assuming it hadn't sold. Now, we have a lot more flexibility on our start date and may start from a different part of the country.
Before we got the condo under contract, we signed up for a week long organized ride in Ohio (GOBA) that starts in the second week of June. I also committed to hosting our annual family gathering in Tennessee over the 4th of July weekend. It seems like the second week of July would be the earliest we can start the ride. We have to figure out the logistics of it all. Worst case scenario, we would stick to our September time frame and spend the summer doing shorter week-long organized rides like GOBA as training.
I feel very, very fortunate that things are falling in place so nicely. Today, is my husband's and my seventh anniversary. We have a lot to be celebrating!!
