Radio stations do it so here we go....... two thoughts on my mind this week.......
YOGA! LOVE IT!
I started taking a free yoga class at my library a year and a half ago. For several months, I was not a pretty sight to put it mildly but little by little, I improved. The people that attend the class are all shapes, sizes and fitness levels so I've been comfortable from the beginning.
Last night was probably the most challenging the class has been for me since those first few classes. AND I WAS ABLE TO KEEP UP! It was exhilarating.
She started out with some moves that really taxed the abs. HELLO! I could feel my abdominal muscles curling and contracting in just the right way. It was pretty cool.
I finally tried jumping into plank from the forward fold and it was good. I nailed the tree and eagle poses. I love those, they make me feel powerful. My balance has greatly improved.
We spent a lot of time in forward folds and downward dogs than we normally do. I REALLY need to buy some slimmer-fitting tops! A couple times I came very close to giving the guy behind me a show.
I LOVE FEELING STRONG, POWERFUL AND BALANCED. Cuz those who know me know I'm a little off balance at times! bah ha.
RUNNING! I LOVE IT!
This is a statement I would NEVER have imagined would ever pop in my head! I've worked out off and on over the last 20 years but have never thought about running.
After my divorce, I put on some weight so I got back into my walking routine. Every night after dinner I headed out on the one-mile path I had mapped around my apartment.
Part of the path was along the railroad tracks because it was well lit at night with some traffic, not too heavy but enough to notice me if the boogie man grabbed me.
One night I was going at a brisk pace and a freight train came through. Not sure what happened, I got this surge of energy, part fright I'm sure and I started jogging. IT WAS AWESOME, the rush of wind, the roar of the engine. The adrenaline was incredible.
I slowly built up to running two blocks and walking one block for a mile and then lost interest. Not sure why.
I started again a couple years ago by downloading the Get Running app. I've been at it for a while, progress did NOT come quickly. I've completed a few 5Ks, nothing spectacular but to me, it's groundbreaking progress!
Last week I started pushing myself a little more and ran 4 miles around my neighborhood. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! I really did that?! Still doesn't seem possible but I'm doing it. I now have my sights set on a 10K by the end of this season or next spring. We'll see how this goes.
None of this has ever been easy, some days it's still a struggle but nothing worth having is ever easy.
Do not EVER underestimate yourself or give up on yourself. Every day is a chance to start over or to push yourself just a little more.
Terrific Tuesday wishes all around!
