Food allergist results - In case you were wondering

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

I know I've been MIA. I'm still dealing with a lot of things.

The bottom line:
I'm allergic to ALL forms of dairy, ALL forms of soy, corn, barley, rye, buckwheat, wheat, walnuts, mustard, and nutmeg. I'm slightly allergic to cashews and pistachios. I'm also possibly allergic to shrimp and crab - because I'm highly allergic to dust mites, there can be a false positive with the two seafood. It was a very small reaction, but I was told to avoid it - for now.

I guess I'm just saddened to know that dairy, soy, gluten (although I'm not Celiac) are truly an issue. It's good to know that it's not just stress (as people were starting to tell me), that there really is an underlying problem, but still... Corn, the nuts, and the spices were the shocker, but the walnuts and nutmeg make sense. I'm not sold on the mustard though.. or the corn. No corn? That means like ... no popcorn (a very healthy snack!) and that I'll 100% have to avoid all processed foods (high fructose corn syrup). blegh. I guess it's good for my "diet" since I've been eating a lot of pizza recently and have been feeling those effects (in more ways than one!). I suppose it'll mean making my own pizza since it's nearly impossible to find GF, soy free, and dairy free pizza. It's almost impossible to find dairy free alternatives that don't contain soy! At least the Galaxy vegan cheese exists!

On a positive note, I'm NOT allergic to eggs and oats (the dr was surprised by that based off of everything else!). That's a good thing!

But that's it for now, I just thought I'd keep you updated. Miss you all and I hope you're all doing fantastic in meeting your goals :)

Well, first of all - it is great to know what has been causing everything. It does suck that you have so many foods to avoid! But I'm sure you'll figure it out and start to feel so much better!

Glad you finally know what it is that triggers your problems! Sorry it will be so incredibly difficult to avoid all of those allergens. Take care!

I know it feels overwhelming but I was diagnosed this time last year. I have a host of food intolerances so luckily I'm not allergic to anything. My biggest offender is Eggs so you are lucky.

Don't feel too overwhelmed. It took me a few starts to finally eliminate the foods from my diet and stick to it. For a while I seemed to be eating the same thing on most days but now my meals have broaden a lot in the past year. Find a host of allergy free websites and sign up for their free newsletters. Living Without is a good site.

Once you eliminate the foods from your diet, it will take a few months to really start feeling better. I promise you will feel a lot better and for me the weigh started to come off. I was to the point where the weight just wasn't coming off anymore and that was frustrating me enough to go talk to someone about it. My knees hurt and I had other issues. Now I feel great. I'm very close to my goal weight and I have no issues with my knees (I can't believe that I'm running now.)

Check out my blog about when I was first diagnosed.

Congratulations! You have your testing done. My son has many of these and others. We were so relieved to get testing results, then we knew how to plan his diet.
So now you can start moving on a great path to successful eating.

Even rice crispies has corn in it. I know because I have to be careful of corn too. I read every label!!

Oh. I know it has got to be difficult getting rid of gluten, dairy, AND soy, but you can do it. I believe in you! emoticon
