Food tracking- Help Please!

Ok, it's something I've bee avoiding, but know it has got to be done. I started thyroid medication 6 weeks ago and after an initial 2 pound loss, nothing more has come off. I really feel the need to have an accurate food log to take when I go back to the doctor next month, so the food tracking has got to start.

I'm not sure exactly how to get it done. My previous efforts have ended in frustration, since it seems difficult to enter made from scratch using fresh ingredients recipes. And, since I don't live in the US, any packaged brands that I do use aren't included in the food lists.

I know I have got to figure out how many calories I'm eating so I can make adjustments and i know I have to start tracking...so I'm open to suggestions as to how to accomplish this.

    Yes, what others have said. Plus before you search, hover your cursor over the "More" box below the Search field; be sure to click on "Search foods shared by other members."

    Anything you eat regularly can be added to Favorites (click for this below the meal menu). Favorites works a lot better now than it used to; as soon as you start entering any of the words of the food, it will search quickly & display all the favorites that include that word. Saves lots of time.

    Good luck. It's time consuming, but worth it. I realize I need to do more groupings. I make so much from scratch it is hard sometimes. I can't wait to get to goal so it will be easier.

    I love the groupings and I enter any recipes I use frequently into sparkrecipes. Then I can just pull it up and add it in from there. It sounds frustrating for you, but if you put in a little time now, it will save you time later. Plus, you can be more certain of your amounts when it's alll YOUR food, you know? Good luck!

    I remember when I started spark, there was always a pile of "trash" (wrappers, etc) from food products, so that I could enter it into my tracker. I live in Germany, so I had to enter practically everything. But now, it is a breeze, because I have all those foods listed as "favorites" and it takes hardly any time at all. It is so worth it, but it will take time. I agree with Whoola - there are more and more "new" foods, that I find that someone has entered. That sure makes it easier.
    Another thing I did, was started entering my recipes. Now I know pretty much each recipe and have a good collection that are entered.
    This all will take time - but you won't regret it. It is time well invested.

    It's something that gets easier with practice. First try to search for the item in the general selection, many people use these trackers so you may be surprised, and if it's there, save it; then it'll be in favourites next time. the other thing is, if you can't find the item you wanted, add it in, again, it'll be there next time round. If you cook from scratch use the 'groupings', you only need to do it once and then when you put in your portion, eg 0.25 if it makes 4 servings, for example, it'll all be done for you - easy! Try to track for one day and see how you get on.
