5% challenge started; confirmed hypothyroid 5-12 to 5-18 weekly plan

Found out for sure this week that I do have hypothyroidism. Started meds on Thursday as well as a weekly vitamin D supplement (in addition to my daily calcium/vit d, vit K) Reading suggests lots of changes to my diet. The hardest being that I have to limit my intake of raw cruciferous veggies. For someone who eats spinach and kale salads with raw broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts, this is going to be very difficult!

Started the next round of the 5% challenge yesterday. hoping I can stay on track and make some progress before we go to Cancun at the beginning of June.

Daily Goals:
~ focus on eating more veggies
~ focus on drinking water throughout the day
~ eat breakfast!!
~ workout
~ 12,000 daily steps
~ work on lesson plans, but leave school by 4:00 daily
~ green smoothies
~ healthy lunch
~ healthy dinner:
~ no wheat!!
~ no soy
~ no peanuts
~ limit cruciferous veggies
~ 1 load Laundry
~ games and/or practices
~ post blog entry, reflection
~ in bed by 11pm on weekends; 9:30pm on weekdays

Calorie range: 1200-1550
Carb Range: 163-236 (aim to stay under 200)
Fat Range: 32-56
Protein Range 60-127
Fiber Range 25-40
Sodium weekend: 500-1500; weekday 500-1000
Water intake: 8 or more- 8oz glasses per day
Fruits 2 & Veggies 4: 6+ per day:

Monday:
~ workout at YMCA before school or walk at home after school
~ meet with 13yo dd's teachers
~ tan (getting ready for cancun)

Tuesday:
~ workout at YMCA before school or walk at home after school
~ Testing Extend I
~ work on moving plants
~ IEP 3:15 at the high school
~ tan if time

Wednesday
~ workout at YMCA before school or walk at home after school
~ Testing Extend I
~ 3rd round state soccer playoffs (regionals)
~ tan

Thursday:
~ workout at YMCA before school
~ TNT weigh-in 7:00am
~ early release
~ 10yo dd dermatologist

Friday:
~ workout at YMCA before school
~ early release
~ tan

Saturday:
~ hopefully Sectionals State Soccer Playoffs
~ workout at the YMCA or walk at home
~ tan

Sunday:
~ walk/jog at home
~ weekly plan
~ check over lesson plans

    sorry to hear about your thyroid, but at least there's a REASON, you know? And you can start treating it!

    Sorry to hear about the hypothyroid dx but better to find out about it now, rather than later.

Looks like you've got a do-able plan... way to go!

Re: Tanning... good way to make vitamin D.

Crucifers: If lightly steamed this cuts the goitrogenic effect. Make sure you're getting adequate selenium (one Brazil nut a day does it) and the RDA of 150 mcgs of iodine as the goitrogenic response is in part caused by blocking iodine.

If you need kale/spinach for smoothies you can stir steam and freeze it so its cold.
