Week 28 : Sunday

Sunday, May 12, 2013

Yep - today it's definately freezing. Or it nearly was - on Dartmoor overnight. There's a nasty cold wind blowing and it's been raining on and off. Despite that I got in a couple of hours in the garden. I finished digging the vegetable plot near the greenhouse and then assembled the raised bed I bought to grow strawberries and salads in.

The rain has at least made the ground a little easier to dig but we haven't had enough yet and it is still very hard. The old apple tree is in full blossom again this year. Every year could be it's last as it grows more and more bracket fungi each year which we knock off to keep it going for as long as possible. It is about 80 years old so full of character and every other year we get a good harvest of cooking apples.

What a beautiful yard. I look forward to seeing it later in the season when the garden is at it's best.

I wish that you had better weather to be out in the garden longer. Your garden is wonderful and I'm a little jealous. haha I have a couple of plants out on my patio but I live in an apartment and that is pretty much all I can do. I started an avocado tree and have tomatoes but the others are just house plants. It's so sad about your apple tree and I hope that against all odds it will give you many more years of beautiful flowers and bounty.
