Good sunday morning run and faulty scale

Sunday, May 12, 2013

I planned a 10K today, but I decided to add some distance, because weather is ideal today for running : 14 oC / 57 oF, overcast and windy.
So on the way back, I added another 1.5 mile segment on the other side of the hill (steep and very narrow and bumpy trail).
I found the right comfortable pace, that allowed me to breath slowly and deeply all the way,
so I finished 7.5 miles at 11:23 min/mile.
I felt wonderful during the entire run, and the bonus: I saw a fox!
This is the first time in my life I saw a free fox alive!
It was coming up on the hillside, and probably couldn't smell and hear me because of the wind, and it was quite surprised when saw me.

Something must have been wrong with the scale in the past few weeks, because now it shows about 2-3 pounds less for everybody.
Now I "calibrated" the scale, measuring 8 kg of weights and it is correct now.
So, my high weight was not so high after all : )
I suspected this, because my weight was up about 5 pounds, and my waist-hip-thigh measurements hardly changed at all.
But the false alarm helped me develop good dinner eating habits so it was a good thing : )

PS: oh, I forgot to mention the change happened after replacing the batteries, so that's in line with what ARCHIMEDESII wrote!

The fox must have been amazing! I envy you!

For the scale:
I had a similar issue with my bathroom scale. I didn't know it's not correct anymore. However, when I bought my Omron scale about 2 years ago, they didn't show the same values, always 1-2 kg difference. Then I checked both scales in the factory where I was working, they had official Mettler Toledo big scale used to weigh raw materials. Then I could verify how precise they are.

I have the impression that many of the scale out there are just simply not showing the right values. But if they show consistent error, they can still help in tracking changes.

Nice run! It is always fun to see wildlife. We regularly see foxes and a large herd of turkeys. Now that it is warmer, we have seen 4 snakes recently too.

Keep up the Spark!

Foxes are shy, and they hide from humans pretty well. I occasionally see a fox, typically crossing a road I'm driving on. Why does the fox cross the road? I dunno, maybe it's looking for a chicken.

Sounds like quite an interesting, enjoyable run! I'm sorry your scale's not working well. That's so frustrating.

We have foxes (and coyotes) in our neighborhood. And I live in town (Austin). I have seen coyotes in the ravine behind my house. And once while I was running on a neighborhood street, a fox emerged from the underbrush on the hill next to me and ran across the road right in front of me. I'm not sure which of us was more surprised.

My cats are definitely indoor cats. It's not safe out there and not just because of cars. In fact my neighbor saw a coyote tree a cat on our street. The coyote was back the next day looking for him. He (the cat) is a wily old devil. I'm not sure how he has survived this long running free.

Always a good idea to take advantage of good weather, and to run if you feel like it!

so funny........about the scale. We have one of those old doctor's scales that have the weights you move on them. They refuse to lie.

We have foxes or at least one fox in the neighborhood. It seems to take a regular route and I've seen it go down my neighbor's driveway at least 3 times. My dogs always go nuts when they see/smell him. What a lovely sight!

Yesterday was a 2 deer, 3 bunny day for me!

Happy Sparking!

Doing more than you planned, weighing less than you thought, seeing your first fox in the wild- Maybe good things do come in threes.

Great run! I'd love to see a live fox, we have plenty of deer, though. Sounds like the both of you were plenty surprised! Glad the scale got ironed out, too. Hope you have a great day!

You might also want to check the batteries. If your scale has been acting a little wonky recently, it might need new batteries.

It's really nice here too. I'm planning on taking a short walk in a little while. I need to make a run to the grocery store.

Very cool that you got to see a fox. I've never seen one. Although, I have seen cotton tail bunnies. I've seen wild turkeys too. I've seen them a bunch of times. They seem to enjoy living in the city, go figure. LOL !
