I always think it's ironic that the 5% challenge starts on s Saturday - traditionally a very tough day for me.
As an Orthodox Jewish woman, we celebrate the Sabbath on Saturday. Actually, it begins sundown Friday and ends at sunset Saturday. The Sabbath is a day of rest and we take that pretty literally... so:
- No electronic devices (includes phone, computer, TV... we even set our house-lights on a timer to go on and off when we need them)
- No exercising... I can take a leisurely walk, but nothing that will get me to the point of sweating. Given that sundown is late these days, that pretty much nixes any exercise for the day... especially when my son had a basketball game at 9:30 tonight which I went to.
- 2 festive meals. One Friday night, and one Saturday afternoon. When I say festive, I mean that we basically cook thanksgiving dinner every week. When we are home alone (no guests) I try to make it really healthy. Sometimes I will just serve Challah bread, salad, brown rice, and chicken for lunch - fresh fruit for dessert.... Friday night is Challah, Chicken soup, and some kind of chicken, meatballs and a few side dishes.... Pretty simple.
Now - this is the low key, every week thing. This week we were invited out to lunch, which means a REALLY festive indulgent meal. I made good choices and I logged them (tonight, after the Sabbath ended) but I have learned not to consistently deprive myself of goodies. I had some of the Berry-cream pie that I made for the hostess, and I had some Jelly-Bellies... Love them! Then in the afternoon I made the mistake of eating Kettle corn straight from the bag - not pre-portioning it out.
When I logged it all in it was not too much over my calorie limit for Spark, but way over for fitbit (although - since I was not wearing my fitbit all day - remember the thing about not using electrical devices?) It probably wasn't as bad as it recorded.
All in all it was a decent effort considering. This week I have a big 2-day holiday from Tuesday night until Thursday night - then another Sabbath on it's heels, so I will try my best but it'll be a doozie of a week!
