I did it. I got up on time to make my race. After last Sunday, I had my doubts.
As usual, I got a terrible night's sleep. But I did get some. I must have had five different alarms set up to make sure I got out of the bed. And yes I was considerate and slept in the attic room so I didn't disturb anyone's beauty sleep, not that she needs it.
I got geared up and I found my way down to the kitchen. The night before a race I set up steel cut oatmeal in the rice cooker on the porridge setting to be ready before I get up. That way breakfast awaits. I set it on the wrong setting because it was hard kernels of oats in hot water. Grrr.
Not a major problem. A Clif bar is about the same Calories and more portable. High in sugar, yes, but in a pinch.
I got going in short order and I ran my race. Around mile 10, I really slowed because my hip started to hurt. So first the two hour Half was gone, then the PR was gone and after that it became just a run to do the best I had left.
Which was not to shabby. I finished at 2:18. And many experienced runner have said that this is one of the toughest courses they have run. Oh and it rained on us over my last 20 minutes.
I was pleased.
After I crossed the finish line and collected my medal, they had a DJ set up in the intersection. So. I. Danced!
For about 10 minutes. I strongly believe in "active recovery."
I had a blast.
