I wanted to add some pictures from graduation on Friday. Here I am after the ceremony:
With my mom (she was so proud!) (I saw a saying that went: I went to grad school for an education for me and a diploma for my mom!)
My DW is not a big ceremony person to begin with and did not relish being at a 2 hour ceremony with a 1 y.o. and a 2 and a half y.o. So, no photos with the DW and kids. I think we will try to get a picture with me in my graduation regalia with the kids.
And, with my advisor:
UMass added a new tradition to their graduate commencement this year. The PhD advisors walked in with their students, sat with them, and went up on stage with them to take part in their hooding ceremony. It was a nice touch and a nice way to recognize the mentorship that an academic advisor provides.
My advisor got to UMass only 2 years before I did and I was his first PhD student. He has a few more in line behind me and is in line for tenure. He is making a name for himself in the water resources field with focus in forecasting and climate change. Definitely potential for continued collaboration with him and his research group. He is former military man, he was in the Air Force, including a stint teaching at the Air Force Academy. It was part of the reason that I thought it was a good fit to study here.
What's the med school joke? What do you call the person who graduates last in their med school class? Dr! Well, I didn't graduate last, but I am still a Dr! My 4 y.o. asked me what kind of Dr I was, and I said a Dr of water.
Well, enough with basking in the afterglow, it is time to focus on getting ready for the move and the next assignment at West Point!
