Hi Every One!

On my 5% Challenge team "THE SPIRITED UNDERDOGS' our fearless leader Diane
asked me to write about my visit with my doctor!

Every few years I have to get an MRI because I have a Colloid Cyst in my Brain. Is it dangerous? It can be. I was lucky and they found it early where they just need to monitor it. If it gets to a certain size then they will remove it. They cause severe headaches, and double vision, and my balance is off sometimes.

When I went to see my neurologist we talked about the 5% challenge. He was happy that I was a part of such a good way to make sure I have a healthy life style, plus lose the weight at the same time.

Since I have the headaches, and my balance is sometimes off, He recommended that I limit my exercise time to 3 times a day about 10 to 15 minutes each session. He said I could do my recumbent bike, and walk with a dvd this challenge, and to do strength exercise with 3 lb weights only when sitting.

I like to tell all of you, please if you have a health problem, make sure that you talk to your doctor before you exercise. I was the one that did 120 minutes a day for my challenges. I found out last week that I was doing too much then, basically because how severe the headaches can get with my cyst!

I now am at a good pace and my headaches aren't as bad as they were in the past!

I learned a real big lesson the past year!

Mary Ann - I had no idea you were battling a brain cyst. I am so glad to hear it only needs monitoring and I hope you never reach the need for surgery. Studies show that you can divide up your workout time throughout the day and see the same results as doing in one setting. Don't get discouraged!

Very true. My doctor was actually the one who recommended sparkpeople to me. She and I regularly talk about my exercise routine and what is appropriate for me and my health. I recommend this for anyone with any health concerns.
