" The only means of strengthening one's intellect is to make up one's mind about nothing -to let the mind be a thoroughfare for all thoughts." John Keats
Do you want to stay young and healthy and vibrant? We all work on being thinner and healthier and faster and stronger.
Some of us want to be smarter. So what do we do we pick a subject and read and analyze and ponder and learn all about it. We dissect that subject to the fullest until their is nothing else to learn about it . Then we call ourselves smarter.
Mean while there is a ton of info that goes swirling by , that we consider un relevant, or hog wash , or wishy washy or just plain stupid. We need to open our minds more and be less opinioned . That way we can learn more .
We don't have to love or agree in a topic to learn about it. I mean I don't think I could ever be a full blown Buddhist , as example, but I love the idea of mediation, yoga, tai chi and living a simpler life.
I would never be a vegetarian, but I do believe there is much benefits of eating more vegetables and less meat,
I also know I could never be a body builder but there is much benefits to working your muscles a couple of times of weak to strengthen them and your bones .
I am listening to the advice in this quote .I will be less of an expert on some things and let my mind wander. I will open my mind to new ideas and principles and will learn and grow and expand and my life will be so much richer because of it.
My son is an excellent example of using this principle, he never did well in school and didn't want to go to college. He is extremely smart and can converse on a variety of topic from politics, culinary arts, engineering, construction, history , math , science. Not sure where he gets his wealth of info but man does that kid have some intellect. His mind is open 24-7 learning in unconventional ways. Television, and internet became his learning tools and , listening to others.
Our lives are open to so many opportunities we really have to stop closing doors. Staying open gives us the opportunity to grow. So keep an open mind you never know where it will take you.
