Life without Percy

My large cat, Charlie, is missing his recently deceased brother. Not in a howling, sort of way. Or even a prowling sort of way. He did not (as I'm told some cats do) spend days looking for Percy. In fact since they were always both very outdoors cats, they weren't often in the same place at the same time. That, and the fact that Charlie always found Percy irritating because he wanted to snuggle up.

Now, however, something in Charlie's cat brain is missing Percy. This is manifesting itself in clinginess and attention-seeking. It's my attention he wants of course. Where he used to say hello to Percy and they would mill around together and dash into the kitchen ahead of me to be fed, now Charlie's doing all this on his own and he clearly misses the interactions he used to have.

This of course makes it LOADS easier for me to get used to being without Percy. Not.

The icing on the cake is that when I got home yesterday, there was a message from the vet saying Percy's ashes were ready for me to collect.

I'm expecting rain this afternoon.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your cat. I have been through the sadness of losing a beloved pet three times. We had three kitties who have all passed away several years ago. They become part of your family in a way. I remember our oldest cat (who was actually the last to pass away weirdly enough) acted the same way. She seemed to know that something was different and did become more affectionate and clingy than she had ever been before. I suppose cats mourn just we humans do and perhaps that their way of dealing. Perhaps its also Charlies way to help you feel better as well. emoticon

So sorry to hear about Percy! Animals do grieve, in their own way. It's no surprise that cats are subtle about it.

It's hard on everyone when we lose a pet. I'm sure Charlie knows, in his own way, that Percy is gone.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss of Percy. I to just lost one of my kitty's, unexpectedly, so I know exactly how you feel. They are such a part of our family.
It's obvious that Charlie feels the loss too !! Give him lots of love, and you can help each other. emoticon emoticon

I agree = Charlie does both miss Percy, and realize that you are sad. Percy will always have a place in your heart, and now Charlie can use some extra kitty-cuddle!

I hope your heart is healing.

have a large glass of "grape juice" and then go for a trudge in the rain. You will be able to stomp in puddles and see rainbows in the oil spills

Hope Charlie, and you....feel better soon!

A full life is full of changes, for us and our cats. Some changes happen to us for no GOOD reason, others we work at doing to ourselves.
Since the April showers are over, you must be loaded with gorgeous May flowers.
Had to mow my lawn for the second time this mowing season.

time....both of you need time to adjust. You will never forget; never stop missing Percy. But in time your happy memories will overshadow the sorrow.

those furkids greet us every time we come in the house. They come to us for attention, food, love, play, etc. It's only natural that we miss them.

My cat Arbuckle missed his buddy Miaowski so much. In the end we got him a pet cat, Edie, for companionship. Cats are such social creatures, they get sad and lonely.
As do we.
