Compliments and how to actually enjoy them

Saturday, May 11, 2013

Most of us here don't know how to accept, enjoy and actually appreciate compliments given to us. We all turn around and add some comment of 'Thank you' - Its nothing, to 'You don't really mean that' or worse we belittle our selves and say things like "I'm not pretty, what do you mean you think I'm pretty...."

Today I actually tried something new -three co-workers all asked me about how much weight I had lost, and I told them, and they all said it looked good and i was looking good and instead of saying 'You've got to be kidding I'm 300+ lbs" I was very happy. In fact I felt joy, that while I haven't notice any physical change, others have. And that was a good motivator today. Plus I told them all about Sparkpeople.

emoticon Blog topic! We all need to be reminded about accepting compliments graciously and feel the joy, not blow them off or negate them. Body image and self esteem are two of the hardest things to turn to positives I think. Yet without that we can't get out of our own way to see what we have accomplished and how we are changing. emoticon for sharing this with us.

yes we need to understand that we have a good amount of self worth and it is easier to listen to good words said about us when we know that fact .

I love that you blogged about this topic. So often when we have a lot of weight to lose especially, but even for some women who are at or near their goal weights, we forget to acknowledge our own successes or even accept compliments of others. It is a really important lesson to learn. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS. Your compliments may be enjoyed by many because you were thoughtful enough to talk about them.
