I took time for myself--ALL morning!

Friday, May 10, 2013

But I am waiting for the stress to begin.....

I went 'swimming' this morning, chatted with a friend after water aerobics, drove to a special flower selling business, got a sub sandwich for DH, watched Young and hte Restless, and cooked myself a tomato and parmesan on toast open faced sandwich! Heaven!

All sorts of aides and health workers were supposed to show up today for DH. I was hoping I'd miss them all! He says none came this morning. And no one phoned either.

Usually when they come, if I am home, they get me into his stuff. It is very stressful for me. they give me all sorts of instructions to do with him. All for his own good and his own health,. But he gives me a hard time with it all.

I might just leave again before any of them show up. It felt so good this morning to be doing my own stuff. Chris

it is easier to take care of others when we first take care of ourselves.

You can't take of anyone else if you can't take care of you-good for you for doing what you needed for yourself.

Thank you for taking care of my friend - I understand how demanding caregiving is under the BEST of situations and how difficult it is when so many challenges present themselves all the time. It is well worth it but you DO HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF YOU in order to care for others. It made my day when I read the title of your blog. I love that you went swimming - that was the medicine I prescribed for my stepmother when she was caring for my father - she NEEDED to get both exercise and relaxation and the swimming pool and therapy pool were perfect for BOTH. THANK YOU FOR CARING FOR YOU - YOU matter too.
