Energy Vampires

Friday, May 10, 2013

We all know people who suck the life out of vampires. I am trying harder not to let those people bother me. I limit my small circle of friends to people who are similar to me and will cheer me on. It is a lot harder to deal with someone who is an energy vampire and they are family. I have a plan in place for this weekend to handle people who will be around me who will try everything to get little digs in, make comments, or try in other ways to bring me down even though it is a time to celebrate my sister's approaching marriage.

I will:
*Pack my own food. I do not eat many of the things that will be served. I will have to deal with comments about how I am not eating cake, why isn't she eating a sandwich...etc. Who cares what I am or am not eating? Shouldn't everyone be enjoying everyone's company? Some people are used to me packing everything and it will not phase them.

*Take lots of pics! This is a great way to distract myself from potential drama. "Sorry gotta take some pics for the bride.":) I would love nothing more than to cut my mom off mid rant about whatever and say "CHEESE."

*Run the games and present unwrapping. No one can bother me if I am helping:)

*Work out in the AM. The gym is 2 miles from my sister's house. For a mere 10 bucks and a super hard workout I created, I think my sanity will be somewhat saved:)

*Drink lots of water. Sorry, gotta go...literally:)

I hope everything goes really well. I know my sister just wants it to be over. My mom is probably the number one reason. She could potentially drive me nuts, but I am not giving her that control. If she wants to rant, let her...maybe I will capture it on camera:)

Today's workout:
12 miles spin
Front squats #65...all were solid. Time to add some weight:)
Tire flips
sled run
TRX torso rotation
battle ropes with lunges
single leg squats
box jumps
Russian slams
slide board
ARC for 10
Last minute Target run and then packing for our trip:)
Oh and if you have not made a protein pancake in the blender yet...DO IT! The batter is awesome! I got a sweet new blender and it made the best pancake ever! So good I had to have 2:)

591.75 miles for the year

Yeah, sometimes family has an uncanny ability to suck our newfound motivation right out....mostly because we're changing and they're not

Sounds like you've got a solid plan....stay busy, stay healthy, workout....find some quiet time....and when you get your buttons pushed, find an empty room....AND DO SQUATS!

KELLIEBEAN, my mother would have called that response "killing her with kindness," and it works every time.

CGG111, you have a good plan, so you'll be great!

We all have energy vampires in our lives. Over twenty years ago, shortly before I left my husband, I was steadily losing weight. As soon as it became obvious, my husband began bringing me fancy boxes of chocolates. By the time I'd lost 40 pounds I'd received 3 boxes of chocolates from a man who'd never brought me chocolates before. I didn't eat even one of those chocolates, and my thin friends were thrilled to receive them from me. Not surprising the marriage failed. Sadly, those who should be our biggest boosters can turn out to be the ones most likely to sandbag us.

Wow sounds like my wife's family (my wife would totally agree!), if only people were like my folks.....easy going, letting people live the way they want to live their lives!

When people are ranting, avoid seeing them instead see a giant frog's much more enjoyable! emoticon

    Excellent plan!

I several family members like that. I once stopped a rant by smiling, shaking my head as I said "You're so pretty" and walked away. She wasn't quite sure what to make of that.

You and your sister will get through the day. Can't wait to hear all about it!
