Thought and Prayer for Friday, May 10, 2013

Since we are all different, other people’s actions and words are not always what we think they should be. There are those who gossip, those who curse, those who tell inappropriate jokes or poke fun at others. Our actions and words show others where our minds and hearts are. We can’t be worshiping God when we are saying and doing inappropriate things about others or to others. Even whispering to another can be construed as gossip. Let’s be mindful of our actions and words today.
Ephesians 5:4 “Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we know we can’t truly worship You if we are a part of inappropriate conduct. Even if we aren’t the one talking but we continue to listen, we are just as much a part of it. We have to take a stand today for You and let others know we won’t condone inappropriate conduct. We need to let them know that we worship only You and that inappropriate behavior is not part of worship. Help us today, Lord, by giving us the strength and courage to stand up for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Listening to an obscene story or coarse joke about someone is just as bad as telling it.
It is not okay for us to talk about others no matter what wrong actions they are taking.
Even though the world is filled with inappropriate behavior doesn’t make it okay to do.
We have to be different and the ones who aren’t afraid to stand up against foul language and inappropriate conduct.
God wants us to worship Him and when we are a part of obscene stories, foolish talk and coarse jokes, we can’t fully worship Him.
2 Timothy 2:16 “Avoid worthless, foolish talk that only leads to more godless behavior.” (NLT)
