We all do it. Most of us are harder on ourselves than we are on others around us. I don't know a single person for whom this isn't the case. Today, try to treat yourself with the same tender-loving-care with which you treat your best friend. Go ahead! You deserve it!
Remember, all is not lost just because you had a sweet, melting morsel of milk chocolate. All is not lost because you missed one workout due to having a cold and not feeling well enough to go to the gym or to walk in the mall or park. We all need to set goals to which we need to rise to the challenge. We need to remember that this whole journey is about progress, not perfection. When we’ve expected absolute perfection from ourselves in the past, we’ve come up short, burned out, and given up. We don’t have to do that this time! We just need to make progress…long strides or short strides…both are great. Sometimes cutting ourselves a break long enough to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and continue on our journey is just what we need to maintain that progress.
That being said, my effort to give myself a do-over today is to reset some of my spark streaks so that I can make a new, concerted effort to continue those streaks and maintain them to a level of at least 90% in a given time frame. For example, if I reach 92% in getting 5 fruits and veggies in a day over the course of a month, I’ve succeeded. STRIVING FOR 100% WILL ALWAYS BE MY GOAL. Cutting myself a break is giving myself permission to be imperfect in the progression of my spark streaks, yet maintaining a high percentage of the days in a month that I have been successful in that particular short-term goal. Making progress is the primary goal after all, right? That’s the means to an end…a fantastic end. Health and wellness! If I reach the 100% that I’m striving for, I’ll be able to treat myself to a non-food treat, like a manicure or pedicure…or both! What are your favorite non-food treats?
