Christine! That's Me! And best coworkers ever.

I knew tonight's CrossFit would be good and it was only several hours AFTER I saw the WOD and got excited, did I find out it's a benchmark girl WOD... and it's CHRISTINE! That's ME! I was destined to kick some butt tonight.
3 rounds for time
12 bodyweight deadlifts
21 box jumps
I pushed HARD tonight and finished in 15:27, somewhere in the middle of everyone else. Times tended to range from 13 to 18 minutes. The only thing is that I only used 65# for the deadlifts and it turned out to be way too easy. I definitely could have done 85# no problem, maybe more. But I am still learning what I am capable of.
So I work with these two really great people... let's call them Gertie and Alex. They have to work together a lot so they are pretty much known as one person, i.e., "Gertie&Alex". So I was talking to them today- they tend to work under a hood right next to my bench so we chat a lot. We were talking about fingernails and I mentioned, oh yeah, I used to bite my nails a lot. I stopped when I was about 20, but since I had a rough week I chewed on them a few days ago.
I didn't realize what I said until it was too late and of course they latched onto the detail I didn't want to share with anyone yet.
Alex: You had a bad week? What happened?
Gertie: Are you okay?
Me: Yes, yes. I was just, you know, a little stressed out and bit my nails, it's no big deal.
Alex: You were really quiet on Tuesday... when I asked you what was wrong you said you were fine! Did you lie to me?!
Gertie: What's wrong? You can tell us.
Me: I just... um... *checks around the lab* OK, the thing is, I got rejected from grad school.
The looks on their faces might have been worse than the actual letter. They looked heartbroken and immediately started trying to help.
Gertie: What can we do to help? Can we do anything to make you feel better?!
Alex: Can we take you out to lunch?
Gertie: Or buy you a present?
Basically at this point, if I felt physically capable of shedding any more tears, I probably would have cried. But since I pretty much did not stop crying for 72 hours, I think I am all dried up.
Just because people are your coworkers, doesn't necessarily mean they can't be your friends. I learned this today.
