Bopping and Hopping! What's Your Opinion of my Gift Choice?

Thursday, May 09, 2013

Woke up to no hot water, and so did no exercise because I did not want to sit around in my workout clothes shivering until whatever time they could get it fixed. It was a broken pump. Not too likely hot water will trickle down 16 floors to me until they got it fixed. So I alternated between Sparking and work and then all of a sudden, my internet and phone died! It was time to go to the club and report the game from yesterday anyway. So I did so and had four people sign up with the American Contract Bridge League while there. Three gave me cheques which meant I had to mail their applications in and the fourth gave me cash so I could go online and sign her up using my credit card. I discovered I was out of both address labels and US stamps, so needed to go to the store and then make up some labels. While without internet, I started up my Vitamix -you are supposed to run warm water and dish washing liquid through it first before using it to make sure there are no residue manufacturing dust and pieces. I was totally astonished how easy to use it was! I had always resisted getting a blender that Mom wanted to give me because I was afraid with my arthritic hands I would not be able to lift the container (this plastic one is so light) or shut the lid securely enough -goes down easy or secure the plug -went in like a dream! And placing it on top of the machine required no effort at all -it doesn't even lock into place, just sits there, so its just as easy to lift out. The other astonishing thing was how quiet it was! My immersion blender makes far and away more noise! emoticon emoticon
I also got setting up and playing my Bose -as radio reception is so poor at the bottom of a 16 story building and surrounded by tall buildings, I have to depend on CD's so got the 3 CD changer for my Bose (with Air Miles of course -never going to put out cash when I can use those) The first CD I put in was Paul Simon's Graceland. Like WOW! Love it!! Made me want to get up and boogie big time! I have been listening to my TV's digital music station which has to go through the tiny TV speakers and doesn't sound all that great. I had been missing what true stereo sound is like! Pure heaven! I just wish I had a spot in my living room to set it up so I could go on my elliptical listening to it (its in my bedroom)

So I looked high and low and just couldn't think of an appropriate gift for the two women of our bridge club achieving a high ranking in the ACBL. Then I saw these compacts. I know both women use makeup and these looked nice and had room for engraving on the back:

The back:

The other one:

The back, it was very hard to get this to show up, had to use my own reflection lol:

They both opened up to be a double mirror. Ladies who use these things tell me how useful that is. Do you think these were a good idea? I thought it would be better then another pen set, mug, clock or business card holder which none of them have anyway.

I also bought these little blank cards that sort of matched the compacts and wrote a personal note to each in them:

To go with the pink one:

No one at the club could give me any ideas, but this one women's best friend was sure pushing me to get something and kept pestering me about it. I rise to a challenge any day, but shopping is simply not my forte, and especially about what women might like as I have always been a Tomboy. When I reached a milestone I said I would appreciate the pen set as I wouldn't know what to do with a candlestick holder lol. I also don't use make up so this was foreign territory to me.
More work to be done, it never ends :P
Have a Totally Terrific Thursday evening!
Thanks for stopping by!

I don't wear make-up often, but they are beautiful and the engraving makes them such an endearing gift. You did a great job when you finally got to it. You are so busy, I don't know how that you fit it all in. Having the water and internet out would have messed up my daily rituals enough to mess up my entire day... Good for you.

    Hey, dear friend!

It continually amazes me all that you get accomplished. I think the compacts you picked out are wonderful. You are certainly the most amazing and motivating person I know of.

Thanks for keeping tabs on me. Right now I'm in a one step forward two steps backwards mode, but I will not give up! I am growing more comfortable with myself on a daily basis and truly believe Ibwill reach my goals. Your support is enormous to me.

I loved the prizes! Good choice!
I assume your internet is back on since you posted. What a pain!
I'm jealous of your Vitamax. I just got a new Kitchen Aid high powered blender which is wonderful but NOISY!! I wake up the family when I make my breakfast at 6:00 AM.

I hope you have a wonderful Saturday. OH!!! And Graceland is one of my all time favorite albums. Paul rocks! I have a video of the live Graceland concert he gave in Johannesburg South AFrica....and that was prior to the end of apartheid It was a great concert. I attended the NYC version at Madison Square GArden and it was amazing..

    Enjoy your music!

You made some beautiful and elegant choices! I am sure those ladies will treasure those compacts for a very long time!

My hot water heater was off for a few days last week. I had to scurry in to work very early to shower and get ready for work before anyone could see me before my shower. Not fun!

I think you made a wonderful and thoughtful choice of gifts for your bridge ladies. I'm sure they'll love them. I also love the cards.

And, that is emoticon about the Vitamix. I've been contemplating buying a docking station for my iPod with my Air Miles but I'm not sure. I also have been pondering an indoor grill. We'll see.

Hope the hot water is back on so that you can exercise at home today.

    Take care.

I think your choice was great. I use mine quite often but it's not nearly as pretty. I'm sure you'll find a way to get your great sound into the living room. Graceland is one of my fav CDs. Think ill have to add it to tomorrow's play list. Rest easy. CJ

Super choice of gifts -- I know that I use my little compact all the time for things like putting in contact lenses and also for lipstick (I love lipstick but have never worn much makeup: no foundation ever . . . )

They are so pretty and unusual. (Mine is just a utilitarian black plastic).

Your coordinating cards are a really nice touch. How thoughtful!

And: so glad your Vitamix is working out so well. I have very arthritic hands too and wondered about that: have a client who swears by his. Great that your
Bose is giving you so much pleasure too. Yay great sound!!
