Stepping back to step up

Where to go from here. It's a natural time to re-evaluate. J and I finished our first 5k and set right back to walking on Monday morning. My knees hurt badly, so we kept it down to 1.5 miles. Same for Tuesday. Wednesday we planned to walk the regular 3.1 miles, but got drenched halfway through All this gave me some time to think.
Then, yesterday I read two articles on SP about walking. Well, I read an article, and read the title of a blog. The article discussed ways to get the most out of your walking workout, including steps to increase you speed. I learned a number of useful things there, thank you very much. The blog was by another Sparker who had recently started a walking workout and was experiencing the normal muscle pain that comes with beginning a new workout.
I decided that we have not been working hard enough. Now, I'm not diminishing the results so far. This isn't about looking back. It's about looking forward. I accomplished something I would never have considered just four months ago. I'm proud of that accomplishment. Now, it's time to kick it up a notch. So, both to give my knees a bit of a rest until I can see the doc about them, and to not overdo a stepped up workout, we're back to 1.5 miles, and stepping up the pace. I'll be looking for another 5k for later this year, and I will finish in less than 50 minutes. So, today we punched up the pace a bit. Our fastest 1.5 miles before today was 30:55 minutes. Today we walked it in 28:03. We'll keep at that distance until we are consistently under 25 minutes.
