Frustrating day...

Wednesday, May 08, 2013

Today, I had to get some things out of the way before going to the gym. After I finished getting things done, I was in a bit of pain. My leg was hurting and it wasn't just mild pain. It's not a pulled muscle. I started getting this pain last week but the pain usually subsides after a while.

My sister asked me if I wanted to go to the gym and I told her my leg hurts but I want to wait a while to see if the pain goes away BUT my sister didn't care at all. She said she got ready and wanted go right this minute before it got packed. emoticon I live with my family and there's only one car so....no gym for me today because she left without me. emoticon

All I wanted was to wait 20 minutes to see if I would be able to handle going or not. My leg doesn't even hurt anymore either!

My sister has suffered from leg pain and swelling and I didn't treat her the way she treated me today.

I am aware that it's good to rest your body and give it a chance to heal but as I mentioned, it's not a pulled muscle. There is no guarantee that resting it today will prevent it from hurting tomorrow. It's my body and if I want to workout, it's up to me but now I don't even have the choice.

I also found out I'm Anemic today. Gee, my body sure likes to attack me from the inside out, doesn't it? Hypothyroidism, PCOS, Anmeia. I am just incredibly grateful it's not anything worse and that I am able to treat these conditions.

emoticon Hopefully, my body will stop "attacking" and start behaving. emoticon

Sorry to hear you had a rough day. When you cant get to gym, theres tons of workout videos on spark or take a walk outside and make up your own exercise routine!

Glad your leg is feeling better!

You could have done a simple workout at home. You could've watched workout videos on SP or youtube. You could've walked around your neighborhood. You could've done bodyweight exercises. There is no rule that you must be at a gym to work out. Sure, if that's what you're used to it's great - but when you can't get there you have other options. You could have also asked your sister to help you to the car. If it felt better while at the gym you could've still worked out. If it didn't feel better you could've gotten a massage (if the gym offers them), sat outside, or just waited for your sister to finish.

As for your sister, was it right for her to not be sympathetic to you? No. She was wrong. She was insensitive. Did you tell her that in a non-argumentative way? You might want to consider sitting down with her and having a conversation about both of your actions. Having an argument won't be helpful, but telling her how you felt, what you expected of her, what your actions played in it (did you wait until the last minute to get ready, did you not set a time that you expected for her to wait for you - 5 minutes of waiting is different than 30-60 minutes, etc), and discussing how you will handle this situation should it happen in the future (if either is having pain/problems the other will wait only 10 minutes before leaving, if either leaves the other behind then the person left behind gets the car to go to the gym as soon as the other is done with her workout, etc).

When we feel let down by others it is hurtful and disrespectful, but by having a conversation about expectations and feelings sometimes makes things better for the future. Also knowing what other options are available - having a backup plan - is a way to ensure that we can still meet our goals when things don't go according to plan.

Sisterly love has its ups and downs. Just ride the wave.
What kind of a pain is it? If the pain is enough to stop you from doing things, I would suggest that you get it checked out. You don't want to have a stress fracture or a pulled tendon and make it worse.
Anemia is related to PCOS, because of the blood loss you have. Maybe they will give you some Iron or have you eat more spinach :D

I can see how frustrating that would be. But you can use some of the SP exercise videos and do a workout at home. Would talking to your sister about your feelings be possible?

Maybe you should remind your sister that you waited until her leg was okay. It is hard if you tie your exercise up with someone else. They inevitably don't show up etc. Maybe on the days you can't get to the gym you can set up something at home with DVDs etc. Otherwise, maybe you could wait until your sister comes home and then take the car to your workout session. Sorry, it so frustrating especially when you feel like working out. Tomorrow you will kick it! emoticon
