Tonight, I attended my first Walk2Run session with the local Run Club. The total distance that we ran was 1.5k! I can run.
We did some walking to warm up and some wiggly leg exercises, and after running non-stop, we did intervals of running for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds.
Not only did I go, I walked to the venue, did the session, and walked back - in the rain.
I was watching the weather forecast all day. It didn't change from "Showers. Storms. Windy." It was too windy to put up my umbrella, so I essentially carried it in my backpack down to the venue. Even ran with it on my back as there was nowhere to put my bag down. Most people had drove their cars to the session and handed their keys to the facilitator.
I ran too fast initially and found breathing difficult, so slowed to get my breathing more regular and deeper, and then found I could take off again.
We are called the Band of Sisters, and we are encouraged to support and congratulate each other on our achievements and to help us along. I found the initial meeting very welcoming and friendly.
In the next session it is planned that we run ~1.5k too. At least the weather forecast is "Morning shower or two." I'm so looking forward to it.
