HOW FIRM A FOUNDATION
We all know that if something is not built on a firm foundation, it becomes shaky. It becomes unstable. It begins to waiver and move whichever way the wind blows. Many of us have things which we value more than others. We have people who we care about more than others. We have values which are different from other peoples values. However, if we don’t put God first in our lives in all things, if we don’t value Him as our number one priority, our foundation, then we are pretty much guaranteeing that our world is going to be shaky. As we go through this day, let’s think about what or who we value them more than God.
1 Corinthians 3:12-13 “Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, thank You for helping us to realize why our world is shaky. Thank You for showing us that we need a firm foundation. We need You first in our lives. You should be our top priority, our top value in life. When we put You first, our decisions will be clearer. When we put You first, our actions will be more determined. When we put You first, our joy and desire to help others will become stronger. We want to start today putting You first in our lives so we can allow You to being building that firm foundation we need to do Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Our actions and words can tell us (and others) what we value most in life.
Doing what God has called us to do will help us to build the firm foundation that will give our work for Him value to others.
Our foundation should be built on the truths from God’s word and nothing else.
When we take what God wants to teach us and apply it to our lives, we are building a firm foundation to worship Him and no one else.
In order to begin building a firm foundation for God, we must turn away from the things we are obsessed with and cause us to sin.
2 Timothy 2:19 “But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: ‘The LORD knows those who are his,’ and ‘All who belong to the LORD must turn away from evil.’” (NLT)
