One morning, little Joanna was sitting in the kitchen, watching her mother wash dishes. She noticed that her mom had several strands of white hair streaking through her brown hair. Joanna said, “Why have you got those white hairs, Mommy?”
Her mother replied, “Well, dear, every time a daughter does something bad and makes her mommy unhappy, one of her mommy’s hairs turns white.”
Joanna thought for a second and then asked, “Mommy, how come all of grandma’s hairs are white?”

The Office (2005–)
Several years before creating the role of the buffoon boss in the BBC series The Office, Ricky Gervais was at a job interview when the interviewer interrupted him to take a phone call. The man pretended to be nice to the caller, while mouthing to Gervais that the guy was a “wanker.” According to Gervais, that moment laid the foundation for David Brent’s pompous insincerity.
