Happy with progress this week, even without feedback from the scale

Wednesday, May 08, 2013

Just wanted to give a brief update. I've decided to adjust my food choices, eating more protein and good fats, and much less carbs. So I have eggs, bacon, and strawberries for breakfast instead of oatmeal or Kashi cereal.

It almost scares me to write this! But it is uncured bacon from Trader Joes, and only 2 small strips. And the eggs aren't real big, and they are from my sister's chickens. And I don't have any toast! I can't remember ever eating eggs without toast.

For lunch I have had hummus with vegees, or string cheese with an apple and a carrot, or almond butter with Wasa crackers and a banana. For dinner, one night we were at a pot luck, so just ate what there was, but didn't have any dessert or bread. And tonight I had 2 tamales, homemade by one of my coworkers, broccoli, salsa, avocado, and an orange.

And every day I stayed under my calorie goals! I did feel some hunger, but I don't mind that. I eat only at meals, and only have snacks once in a while and only when sitting at the table. And I haven't felt deprived or craving the sweets like I have the last few weeks.

Even better, my attitude has been really positive. I'm happy with my choices. One evening after dinner, I felt like I needed to do something, so I worked on some hand stitching on the pocket hearts we're making to donate to children in the community. I listened to Spark Radio, and stitched and felt relaxed until it was time to go to bed. It was a great day.

I'll get on the scale in the morning, see what it says there. I'll keep going with my small exercise goal of daily 10 minutes. And make good choices one day at a time.

Good job! Much of my learning to lose weight was learning how to eat so that hunger didn't drive me nuts. That ultimately led to a complete revision of what I ate, but only gradually over time. One of the first things was adding enough protein to be satisfied, which naturally squeezed out some carbs.

What you're doing is very similar to what I'm doing -- eating only at meals (with the occasional single snack in any given day if necessary) and focusing on small sizes. I think I also need to move away from so many carbs during mealtimes as my weight loss has slowed way down. Your menu sounds great! And doing non-food things to soothe yourself even better!
