Broad Street 10 Miler...(With Pictures)

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

Well I took off most of the week before Broad Street to give my knee some rest....I am so glad I did that too...My knee hurt a little in the week before, but I was well rested...I definitely missed the workouts though...and to be honest, I wasn't sure if I was prepared for the race....

Saturday am @ 5 am...we started our way to Philly to see my sister and munchkin...It was a very long drive, but thankfully I got to sleep for an hour of the journey....we were there before lunch, but since we didn't eat lunch, I got a usual...Anyways, my sister and I went to get our race bibs..It was crowded! Like holy crowded...But I did pick up my new compression sleeves, I've worn them twice, and I think they were life savers....

Anyways, we went to a super crowded park but munchkin enjoyed his time...But the boy loves his slides

And his Aunt Kerrie...

Later Saturday night, my sister and I did the only logical thing before a race, and pick out our outfits...I came prepared with two but had one in mind, my sister had a few more to try on, and decided on one and then changed in the morning again...

Anyways, we got to race day early enough, and right before the race, my bladder decided not to cooperate...and I had to wait in tremendously long was bad, but we got back when our corral was lining up....yea, we were in the last, and slowest corral....

Anyways, there was a whole lot of running and walking...I didn't get all the pictures, some are on my camera and I can't find my cable to upload them, the rest are from my brother-in-law, but they didn't send me them all...oh well...

My goal time was 2:05...I don't know why I wanted that time, but I did....

I ran this race with my sister...obviously....neither of us trained really well, but I guess I trained a little more than she did....I definitely could've ran harder than I did and for a lot longer than I did as well...But I said I was going to race with my sister and that is what I did...

We had to stop a whole lot to walk and for my sister to recover....Like I said, I didn't really feel like I was pushing myself as much as I could've, but it was still fun..

I am scared of, umm, people in yea, look close, i'm almost out of the shot......

I never once got mad at my sister for "slowing" us down as she says....yes, I got frustrated when we started because I was so excited to run and I didn't want to walk...but then I decided we would race this guy in a cape, and we beat him....The only time I was horribly frustrated to the point of "are you serious" was at the end...I decided if I couldn't hit the goal of 2:05, I wanted 2:15....we were on track to hit it, to finish a few seconds before, we could see the finish line, a few hundred feet in front of us, and she had to walk...I honestly felt like she just gave up, like she didn't care, like she wasn't trying...and I know she was, but I just wanted that time....according to my garmin, we finished in 2:15:55....according to the time chips, I finished a whole minute behind my sister...yea, strange, I know speaking that we were side by side....

Whatever though, I got my first racing medal ever...its so cute!

I wore my compression socks all of Sunday as I rode back 6 hours in a car...and I wore them on Monday just in case....

As a side note, there is still no major pain in my knee...I did get a slight pain when I was doing my one weights at the gym, so I may cut back on them...but nothing major during body combat...

So hopefully, the pain will stay away...

Next race: Saturday - 5k!

Congratulations! You should be so proud of yourself. The second ten-miler I ever did, my knees started killing me late in the race to the point where I could run for maybe 20 yards and then I would have to walk again, and this big huge guy was walking too and we started talking and I was complaining about not being able to run and said to me, "remember, only about 1% of people ever go 10 miles in their whole life so you should be proud. And so should you, no matter what your finish time was.

    And btw, you look great!
