My Teenage Children Have Never Seen Me This Thin!!!

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

As I've mentioned in a previous blog, I have lost 30 lbs. five times. However, it has been almost 14 years since I have dieted. I guess after gaining the weight back 4 times, I kind of gave up.

My son is 18 and my daughter is 14, so neither of them have ever seen me at my current weight. In fact, no where near my current weight. I have been a size 16/18 for as long as my daughter has been alive. After losing 45 lbs, I'm now a size 12 and will most likely be a size 10 by summer.

At my heaviest, I would joke with my friends and say, "this isn't really how I look. This is just my temporary body". "I'm not normally this heavy". However, inside I knew that this chubby body of mine is really how I looked. And it's how I looked for a very long time. Even most of my friends who I've known for over 10 years never saw the real me. Only the temporary me. Not to mention my husband who married me at a size 14.

Well, I hope that my children, husband and friends weren't to attached to the old temporary me. Because my new permanent body is here to stay!

This blog brings a tear to my eye. My oldest son was so young when I was thin, that I am sure he doesn't remember. And, my youngest has never known me thin. I can't wait until I can show them that I can do this!!!

I once commented that I finally feel like my body on the outside matches who I am on the inside. Being obese was really a big protective shield and, although I'm still essentially the same person now, I feel like shedding the excess weight has allowed me to shine in other ways that I wouldn't have had the confidence to show in the past.

After years of loathing or at best tolerating clothes shopping, I also love it now! It's great being able to walk into just about any shop and find things that look good and fit properly. Now I just need to win the lottery, so I can afford to buy them all, lol!

I'm also finding that I'm getting to be the smallest I've ever been in my adult life. I had got down to about 142 (for a few weeks anyway!) ten years ago and had saved a lot of the clothes I had from back then because some of them were barely worn. I started fitting back into those clothes last year and some of them are now too big! I may weigh a bit more than I did ten years ago, but I'm definitely smaller--victory!

Your progress is inspiring and I know that you'll be able to keep it up this time. Great job and have fun with the clothes shopping!

This is amazing! I know that you are an inspiration to your children. They will always remember that you were able to overcome and make a difference. They will see that a healthy diet and exercise really is important. You've made a difference in your life and theirs!

Stumbled across your blog accidentally and loved it and your attitude towards your "temporary body". Keep up the great work. You'll get there before you know it.

All the best, and remember,

Congrats! My kids are 14 and 19. I lost some weight last year, but quickly gained it back. I'm going to uncover my permanent body so that will be the only way they think of me.
