Alot has been learned in my first year on Spark. Utilizing the various tools here force you to pay attention to every detail, all the while helping yourself formulate an excercise/eating plan which you can tweak as you go and the encouragement from members really keep you coming back for more.
I've made many changes to my exercise program to fit me and my lifestyle, but I've also kept my weight training, biking, basketball and the other activities that help me with strength, cardio and endurance.
I have learned not to overtrain and that taking days off are good for your body, not bad! My workouts have more balance to them and now include Yoga, which helps me with flexibility, balance, strength and mental stress relief. I have also realized that what we eat is just as important as the exercises we do.
If we eat things high in fat/carbs than the harder we have to work to maintain our current body weight/fitness level. So if we eat right, we can actually workout less! Of course if we work just as hard then we will actually improve the way our body looks and that is what we are really after.......makes sense right?
It really is a balance of activity versus the proper caloric intake (making up the right amount of carbs, fats and proteins-this can be complicated )
If we're lucky life is long, so think of keeping/getting in shape as a journey and make it a lifestyle, not just something you do on a whim.
