A haircut and flowers today

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

Today I had my monthly oncologist's appointment, and also my chemo. It was about a half hour wait in the waiting room before I saw the doctor. He said my lab work looks good, but it's time to have another bone scan. I don't have the appointment for that set yet, but it will be sometime before I see him next month. Then I was sent to my room for the chemo. They clinic is still short one chemo nurse so I waited awhile before she came in to draw my blood. Then it was a long wait, about an hour, for the lab to get my CBC results back to the nurse. My white blood count was too low, so I could not have chemo today. We will try again next week. So basically, I sat around at the clinic for 2 hours just to talk the doctor for a few minutes and get blood drawn. I'm usually ok with waiting, I'm use to it, but today it was aggravating to wait that long just to find out I couldn't have the chemo.

My best friend took me to Smart Style to get my hair cut. I went there instead of my usual salon because I didn't have to make an appointment. With my health issues and not knowing how I am going to feel one day to the next, I didn't want to make an appointment and then have to change it if it ended up being a bad day for me. I like my new haircut. My hair is straight and fine, and when it gets too long I can't do much of anything with it. This cut has some layers in it to give it some volume, and sideswept bangs. It's actually thicker looking than it appears in the picture.

After that, she took me to Lowes where I got a couple of hanging baskets for my porch.

It's been a long day, but I am glad I got my long overdue haircut today; that makes me feel a lot better about myself, and I am happy with my flowers too.

Its so hard to hurry up and wait! Its a pet peeve of mine that we have to rush rush to get to the Dr's on time only to wait forever to be seen and then wait some more for the nurse to do something the Dr orders. I know they are busy people but so are we, and its been proven that one of the biggest reasons we don't stick to what a Dr plans for us is directly linked to how much time spent in the waiting room. And it had to be sooo frustrating that you did all that waiting and couldn't have your chemo after all. I'm really glad you had such a lovely ending to the day, with a great practical and nice looking do and those two new plant friends to brighten up your home. Sending positve thoughts your way for a good result on the bone scan and for a high enough white cell count to have chemo next week. emoticon

It's so frustrating to wait when you do see the doctor; I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to wait and then not have the procedure!! Love the haircut. Looks fresh and summery. Baskets are beautiful. I haven't even thought about flowers yet!

It is true that small things matter! A good haircut and some pretty flowers make all the difference. I am sorry your labs didn't come in positively so you could go through your chemo today. It sounds to me like the blood should have been drawn before you visited with you onc so that you would know if you are healthy enough for chemo that day. It really frustrates me that they don't consider how hard it is for the patients as they sit in very uncomfortable chairs while waiting...always waiting. Yeah, you might have just been sitting down at home but more thought needs to be given about the patient and their comfort! emoticon

I am sure that with all you have gone through and go through, you have learned patience but, as you said, there are days when patience is short. I am just so happy you have such a good friend and the flowers are just gorgeous. AND, when I get my haircut, I get in layers too, with bangs, and love it. It is easy to take care of and looks good. emoticon I am glad the end of your day was wonderful. Chelsea emoticon

Having a good haircut is a great feeling and I'm glad you enjoy it. (I think you look beautiful.) Add to it getting beautiful new hanging baskets to brighten your porch with incredible colors and hopefully it brightened up your day after the frustrations at the clinic.
