I am in a very disgusted, bad and angry mood!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

My son came home from school today sooooooooo upset, if you don't know my son also has Lyme disease, which means he does have some cognitive problems, like me.
He's been doing well in his studies even math which usually gives him huge problems, he's in mid 70's and for him that's great, he's usually a 90 student in History, English and Science. Okay so he was having trouble with an essay from the English teacher and so she said she wanted to explain something to him after school and he said well my next period is a study period and she also had that period off so she said okay I'll see you in study.
She was going on and on about him doing a run on sentence and then turns to him and says do you have a mental deficiency? Right out in front of other kids, one being the girl that was making fun of him for having Lyme. He whispered to her well I do have Lyme sometimes it's hard for me to concentrate.
Then she asked how he was doing in his other classes (now in her class right now he's got a 84 average), he said he wasn't doing so well in Portuguese, she said why? He said well it's a different language I did better when I was at a level 2 not 1 but the teacher said I was advanced last year to go to level 1, he said next year I'm going to a level 2 , she said why you scared? You want the easy way out?
WHAT THE HELL? MY SON HAS ISSUES WITH BULLYING BEFORE HE DOESN'T NEED THIS!!!!!!! SHE'S SUPPOSE TO BE THERE TO BUILD UP STUDENTS NOT TEAR THEM DOWN, NOT BREAK HIS SELF ESTEEM.
I called the VP and told her , my son gets on the phone and was telling her what happened she says to him oh do you think she said it in a kidding way?????????????????
ARE YOU SERIOUS???????????????????????
??? NO TEACHER SHOULD BE ASKING ANY CHILD IF HE HAS A MENTAL DEFICIENCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND WHEN I GOT BACK ON THE PHONE I TOLD HER THAT, I SAID LOOK I KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE CAUSE I HAVE LYME / FIBRO AND HAVE COGNITIVE PROBLEMS. YOU KNOW WHEN I WENT TO SCHOOL TO BE A MEDICAL ASSISTANT I MADE THE DEAN'S LIST (TO MUCH OF MY SURPRISE) ONLY 3 PEOPLE MADE IT AND I WAS ONE OF THEM WORKING A 40 HR JOB, TAKING CARE OF MY SON AT NIGHT CAUSE HUBBY WORKED 3RD SHIFT AND HE'D BE UP ALL NIGHT AND NOW I CAN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS, SO WHEN HE CAME HOME ALMOST IN TEARS CAUSE OF WHAT THE TEACHER SAID IT REALLY HIT MY HEART....
IF I GET IN THAT SCHOOL WITH THAT TEACHER I'M AFRAID WHAT I'LL DO, MY SON HAS BEEN BULLIED ALL THROUGH SCHOOL EVEN BY SOME TEACHERS AND I'M SICK OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not cause he's my son , but honestly he's so good all he wants is that one friend , he treats everyone with respect, this is the teacher that was just talking good about him the other day and now she's asking if he has a mental deficiency??????????????

My son has Asperger's in First grade his teacher kept telling him that he was stupid. I finally found out because my son never told me. I went to the school and had a fit. They told me that she had 10 year and they couldn't move him from that class room. So me and some family members started volunteering all the time at the school. Sometimes in the class room. Finally she got tired of us being around and switched him to another room. But I went to the PTA and Board meetings to tell what happened everyone. She was retired a few years later but it caused issues for my son for many years.

I am so sorry. If you do not find support from the principle go to the administration!

People like that shouldn't teach. The emotional damage they do lives on long after they are gone to ground. When I was in 5th grade I had a teacher I was terrified of. She didn't single me out personally (because she liked my parents, but I didn't know that I was "safe"). She would terrorize the whole classroom by picking on one of several students who were her whipping posts. She was a bully - no other way to put it. She would scream at kids trying to read out loud in class (they probably were dyslexic I think now). I would sit so tense in class I would have muscle cramps and feel nauseous. To this day I can't remember her name - I have completely blocked her out of my mind. We had a class reunion recently and someone had to tell me her name. How can anyone learn when they are humiliated in class or terrified because someone else is being humiliated????
I don't blame you for being angry!!!!!! Can you get your son out of her reach by moving him to another class? What they ought to do is fire the teacher! Good luck!

Unfortunately it's the only school in town and I'm so disgusted and hurt believe me it's not my hubby they have to worry about IT'S ME!!!!!!!!!!!! BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT LYME IS ALL ABOUT.....
We live in a money town where we aren't wealthy , you should see some of the things that these kids say and nothing happens to them cause daddy has money, my son minds his own business, if he's having trouble with something she's there to try and help and teach not make him feel worthless.
She might as well of asked him if he was the "R" word, I won't even say the word cause I don't like it and in my eye's no one is the "R"word, some people have cognitive problems and are slow, some are autistic but no one deserves to be called that word , but it's almost like she asked him if he was...
I'm so disgusted with the school system here, all the bullying my son has had to put up with we moved here when I was still able to work cause we thought it would be a better school system and it's not. They are worse here then the neighboring city where I was brought up.

I am so sorry for your son, he DOES NOT DESERVE such treatment, especially when its an adult, and a teacher! Children should never feel like there is anything wrong with them. We were all made different and special. That teacher should be fired! Its not right! Not right at all! Im so scared for my 4 yr to go to school , u have no idea. My 2 older children have been picked on through out their lives, and when I hear it I go after it. Its BS !
I think your son is amazing, hope he knows how special and amazing he is! And if there is anyone with a Mental problem its that flippin teacher!

You are absolutely right to stand up for your son! Comments like that can haunt a child for the rest of their life. OMG!

My story is a bit different. I was born with a very mild case of cerebral palsy and to an abusive parent. My eye-hand coordination was very slow and, back in those days, they measured IQ with eye-hand coordination tests. They told Mother I was retarded! She believed them! Fortunately, my first grade teacher did not and, thanks to her giving me a great start, I am a successful adult. But those labels haunted me! I really feel for you and your son!

Can you not switch schools?? It amazes me that nowadays with all the bullying stuff going on that they would even ask the child if the teacher was teasing,a and also that the teacher would even say it for fear of repercussions! boy... not sure what to say but wouldn't want my hubby going to that school they would be sorry. We had an issue in Bermuda, that is still super strict and all, and someone passed a note to Chris to pass and he did teacher saw them and they all got the strap on the hands. well when he came homeOMG hubby OMG just say they never touched him again,he said my kid isn't perfect but if he needs reprimanding you call me, I will fix things.
HUGS
