Getting closer...

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

Went to see my PCP (Primary Care Physician) today for my quarterly checkup. In the past, these quarterly checkups were due to my weight, cholesterol, and Type II diabetes. Thankfully, the first two are in much better shape, so the focus is the Type II diabetes.

Today's #'s:

Weight: 174 (fully clothed!)
Total Cholesterol: 165 (well controlled)
Hemoglobin a1c: 6.1% (in the pre-diabetic level)

So, my weight is right where I want it to be, cholesterol is, as I stated above, well controlled with medication, and getting a lot closer on bringing my hemoglobin a1c back to normal levels (which would be 5.6% or lower). Of course, I was hoping it would be "normal", but this was a nice improvement over my January blood work.

My PCP wants me to come back for another checkup in August, and if the hemoglobin a1c has improved, he will take me off the metformin med (I take 500mg 1x/day prior to dinner) even if I'm not at 5.6%.

Here's to 3 more months and MAYBE one less pill in the pill case!

Good job! It's always nice to see confirmation in the lab tests after you know you've improved your fitness.

Hope all goes well in 3 months and you need 1 less pill.
You must be doing quite a few things well.
Keep up the good work.

Rooting for you! As a nurse, I've seen a lot of patients get off their meds, and it's such a happy day--not only for the patient but for the clinic staff as well! Kudos to you for working so hard. Fingers crossed for next time! emoticon

Great job! I am wondering why you are n Metformin if you are not diabetic, or you just at a "pre-diabetic blood level? I am Type II and just started glyburide a month ago.
You are doing very well on the weight part too!
I bet you felt great to go to the doc for a good reason and get great results!!
