Transition to Senior Housing

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

Hi friends:

I went from the nursing home, back to my house, but kept having out-of-whack blood sugars. I'd shake so bad I couldn't even call 911! Soooo -- that made it scary to live alone. I'm still quite ambulatory, so the health workers and myself decided that Senior Housing would be right for me. emoticon

I really like my apartment and there are lots of folks to meet and get acquainted with. We do fix our own meals here, but sometimes someone on our floor (I'm on the 7th) will fix a big batch of something and invite us all over to get some. It works well for me. emoticon emoticon emoticon

As usual, my insomnia causes problems when it comes to meet others at morning gatherings. Also, I don't have to wait for my son to have some time to fix something that breaks or doesn't work right. HE loves that. emoticon

Sorry I haven't been able to send individual notes to everyone. This is the next best thing in my book. emoticon

Love you all and truly appreciate your support and those who have checked in on me.

Thanks,
Renie emoticon

Nothing worse than being on your own and not being well.

I'm glad you are somewhere safe and that there are others around.

As for the morning gatherings...who cares. Just because you're there, doesn't mean you have to do things like they do. I'm sure not everyone is a morning person.

Hope things work out alright for you.

Hugs.

I'm glad you feel safe and content and are making new friends. Do you have a one bedroom apartment and is there room for a computer?

Sounds like a wonderful solution to your problem. You are somewhere where you can be taken care of when you need it but still do so much on your own. As a person with D2 that has had some hypoglycemic attacks lately I know how dibilitating that can be. I hope you will still track your food and exercise, particularly if you are making your own foods, so you can see when you are not getting the right mix of nutrients to keep your sugar levels steady. Also so you can see when adding in activity and exercise is causing you to need to adjust your intake so your blood sugar won't drop. It sounds like a lovely supportive and friendly place to live. Do you have access to a nutritionist/dietician that could help you keep your blood sugar more level? Its a emoticon way to solve your problems and get your needs for safety, companionship and wellness met!
