This week is teacher appreciation week. It's nice to be appreciated, but I don't like how we are appreciated with food. That doesn't make me feel appreciated and just makes me feel awkward and stressed out as I choose to say no to all of the food.
No, I won't be eating at the staff breakfast tomorrow. I'll eat my own healthy breakfast at home.
No, I won't eat the catered in lunch on Thursday (from the town's best restaurant) that a principal is getting for us. I'll eat my own healthy lunch that I've packed.
No, I won't eat the free pizza on Friday that a different principal is buying. I'll again eat my own healthy lunch that I've packed. I always pack my lunch. I've never eaten the typical school lunches that are served - that food is scary and I feel sorry for the kids that are eating it!
And I haven't seen the $10 gift card that we are to get, but it's usually for food. Ugh! I usually give it to my husband.
I'm going to appreciate being a teacher by appreciating the fact that I'm important and my health is important. I'm going to appreciate each bite of the healthy food that goes into my body and the benefits it provides me.
Have you appreciated a teacher this week? I encourage you to do so in a non-food way: a phone call, a card, a small gift, a hug, etc.
