Sharing Some Wisdom

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

So my husband laughed at me whenever I asked for a vacuum packed sealer for Christmas. It was the only thing I wanted. He griped at the price and talked about how I would never use it, but got it for me anyways.
I would like to note that I use it EVERY day that I work. Every Monday I take a mason jar and put a little bit of salad dressing in the bottom. Then I add heavier items, like tomatoes, or chickpeas, carrots, whatever is in the fridge. Then at the top I put mixed greens. I seal it all in with the wide jar mouth attachment and seal 5 jars of these salads for the week and they stay fresh until I use them. I contribute these salads to a big part of my weight loss and I am so glad I saw the info of "salad in a jar" on line. My lunches are inexpensive and ready to go, and of course delicious! Take that hubby emoticon

    What a great idea.
Most of our meals are salads right now. Some times it's just a chef salad with a muffin, but it might be a rice salad with a tossed salad on the side. I love salads. If there is no protein in the salad, I make deviled eggs or meatless chicken. Peter and I are both losing weight. We take leftovers for lunch.

Interesting... never heard of a vaccum sealer. I'm glad it's working for you. I guess you proved your hubby wrong. :)

    Keep up the good work!

Yeah the vacuum sealer was worth it's weight-- when one Wegmans salad is $13 a $130 vacuum sealer pays for itself pretty quickly! emoticon

I've never heard of salad in a jar, interesting.

My husband has learned that when I only ask for one thing as a gift for a major holiday, it's usually best not to mock it.

Yeah!! I saw that video on how to make salad in a jar!! Although I haven't tried it (due to the cost of the vacuum sealer, ha , ha!) it does seem like an efficient way to be prepared for the entire week and you must be saving money now on having to buy salads out every day! Doesn't seem fair, but buying a nice healthy salad full of fresh veggies cost more than eating an unhealthy cheeseburger! Kudos to you!! emoticon
