Feeling a Little Better - Went Frugal Shopping

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

I'm going to the doctor again next week for an ultrasound (nope, not pregnant, LOL) and unfortunately won't get to talk to my doctor since he will be on vacation. I just didn't want to wait until the end of the month to get it done since I have pretty much made up my mind about the surgery I most probably will have to have if things don't change soon.

I won't go into details, but I thought for sure I would have to go to the emergency room because I know I had to be anemic as every one commented that I looked as pale as a ghost. I have not been feeling well at all, but I'm feeling better than I did now that I am on some medications.

I did manage to go shopping yesterday although it wore me out. I went to pick up some fresh fruit for my family from Aldi's and since there were other stores that I normally shop at nearby, I gritted my teeth and got it done. My Aldi's store has remodeled and I am a huge fan of the new layout. It is so much easier to navigate and things that should go together are together now.

Even though I use lots of coupons, I'm a huge fan of that store and have really been using it quite often for a lot of things that I can't get on sale and use a coupon for at my local grocery stores. Fruit and veggies are my biggest purchase there, but I also buy things like their frozen veggies, decaf. coffee, salsa, etc.

I went to Mighty Dollar and ended up getting lots of $1 jewelry (one necklace even had a $30 price tag on it) for my daughter and I. I was thrilled about that because she and I both love our jewelry and it has saved me so much money going this route. Most of it was well-known name brand jewelry so definitely a great deal.

I stocked up on tons of stuff at BI-LO and used 27 coupons. A few of my deals were 30 cent Dial hand soap I got (99 cents on sale and I had 35 cents coupons that were doubled), 99 cents a pound Boston Butt, etc.

I went by Dollar Tree on the way home and hit the jackpot there. They were putting out Fast Fixin's chicken nuggets (regular big bag you see at the grocery store and that I almost purchased at another grocery store yesterday. Thank goodness I waited because they were snatched up fast (literally while the employee was putting them in the freezer). I snagged 3 of them while she was putting them up since I knew I had coupons, but wasn't sure how many.

Luckily that was how many coupons I had because they were gone in a minute! I got mine for free since my coupons were for $1 off a bag! emoticon emoticon They are normally around $6.50 or more a bag in the grocery store and I thought they were a good deal at Buy 1 Get 1 Free at BI-LO, but thank goodness I held off!

I also got Lysol toilet cleaner (had a coupon), Bounty napkins (had a coupon), etc. Lots of name brand items at my local Dollar Tree and I used 8 coupons!

I was exhausted by this time but had to go to my local pharmacy to pick up some prescriptions and had some bonus bucks to use that were expiring today. I found some Pure and Natural energy bars marked 50% off and I had a store coupon for $1 off 3 so paid only 49 cents for 3 bars total (so paid 16 cents each). They also had boxes of Special K Protein Meal Bars marked down 75% off, which made them $2.24 a box. I had coupons for $1.50 off 2 boxes so paid around $1.50 a box! That was on top of the $2.50 bonus bucks I used as well.

Even the pharmacist commented on how thrifty I was, LOL. I feel like I have missed out on a lot of great deals due to not feeling well, but I think I made up for it yesterday!

I've actually had tons of ultrasounds done and that led up to one surgery I had not too terribly long ago. I was hopeful that it would take care of my issues, but it didn't completely.

My doctor Is on vacation for a couple of weeks so I can't talk to him about the results of the ultrasound I have next week until he gets back and calls me.

We have two Dollar Trees in our town that have the freezers in them (the rest are just regular ones) and those are the stores I seem to do the best at. Of course my freezer is overflowing from all the great deals I got recently, LOL. emoticon

Glad you were feeling good enough to snatch up these bargains but also glad you are taking that next step by getting the ultrasound done. I love Dollar Tree but mine in Winston-Salem don't have any freezer/refrigerated things. Sounds like you made a killing there.

Keep on taking care of yourself! emoticon
