Day 556 - busy!
Tuesday, May 07, 2013
Well, I sure made good use of my time today and got lots done, just no housework! At some point I have to get my butt in gear and get the house presentable to have guests over for son's graduation party. Most know that housework is kind of far down on my list of priorities but REALLY - it's a little out of control right now!!!
One of the boys stayed home from school today - he had a little crash on his bike on Sunday and hurt his heel which makes it pretty hard to walk so I let him stay home for the day, ice it and rest. I wasn't able to get him in to the doctor until tomorrow after school so for now it's just really ugly bruise and a bit swollen. Hoping it's not broken but he can walk on it pretty gently. We'll see if he can put on his shoes in the morning!
After I got a few things done this morning I decided to head back to bed and I slept from about 11am until 4pm. I'm hoping for a good night at work since I got some extra Zzzz's. I put dinner in the crock pot before lying down and I could smell it in my sleep. I just love that but it sometimes makes me have dreams involving food!
My oven is still broken (2 weeks now! Ugh - I hate not having an oven available) so I found a recipe for cabbage rolls for the crock pot. I modified it for my ingredients that I had available and the family really like it. I made it with ground turkey, onions and garlic, a can of Ro-Tel Mild diced tomatoes with green chilies, 8 cups of shredded cabbage, 2 c of cooked brown rice and 10oz of V8 juice. A little salt and pepper at the end and it tasted pretty yummy. I make a cabbage/hamburger casserole in the oven and have substituted ground turkey for it and this reminded me of my old recipe but a little healthier even since my other one used a can of tomato soup.
After eating a little supper I went out and ran 30 minutes (5 minutes to walk as warm up and cool down) and then came back home and mowed the back yard. I struggled with my (stupid) mower and the long, long grass and finally got a rake out and raked up the long grass that kicked out instead of double cutting and bagging. Hubby REALLY needs to get a new motor put on that STUPID mower! It drives me crazy when I can't keep the mower running. I got a lot of exercise today and got quite a few steps in even though I slept for nearly 5 hrs.
Younger son gets an award tomorrow night at school for being on Honor Roll - hope he wants to go because he didn't want to attend last year (easily embarrassed!). If not, the other son is supposed to have a baseball game so I'll probably be busy with something after I get up and make supper.
