3rd Try at SparkPeople

Five years later and I am still struggling with my weight. emoticon I think I am about where I was five years ago with my weight, but I am not at my all time high (down about 25 pounds from that).

After a recent blood donation, I found that both my blood pressure and cholesterol levels are high. Since I lost my job in February due to cutbacks, I no longer have health insurance, so this scared me into watching what I am eating again.

Exercise is difficult for me due to two bad knees and chronic hip pain (an accident caused this) . I am trying to rope my son into walking with me (I am afraid to walk by myself). If I can't get him to walk, I'll try something else - not sure what though!

I've cleaned the house out of most junk (what is left I really don't like but my son does), bought lots of fresh salad veggies, chicken and fish to get me started. Healthy snacks include apples, almonds (must watch the number I eat!), sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello and frozen berries for protein smoothies (this will probably be breakfast).

A friend invited me to lunch today at my favorite Mexican restaurant, and I made a healthy choice of fajitas - I just ate the mix without the beans, rice or tortillas. Since my normal selection is a chimichanga or chile relleno, this was a positive step for me. I did eat about 6 tortilla chips with salsa, but this was way down from the number I normally eat.

Another thing I am trying to change is to eat supper much earlier. Lots of time we would not sit down to eat until 9:00 pm. I'm trying to make it before 7:00 each night. Since it is now 6:10, I better get off here and start cooking...

They say "Three's a charm!!" And getting the junk out of the house was a BIG step!! Just take things slow and do as much planning as you can!!

You are making good strides! I always choose the fajitas also at my favorite Mexican restaurant.
Make good choices each day. If your son won't walk with you try a Spark people video with Coach Nicole. Many of them are only 10 minutes and you can choose from a large variety!
Doing something is better than doing nothiing.
