Kind of disappointed, but ah well.

I am doing so good on my weight loss and my workouts at the gym, I know my efforts would suffer or stop if I start training on the roads for an extended ride like this one. I don’t get near as good a workout on the road as I do on the recumbent at the gym. So, he and I were talking and while it pains me to do it. I am going to stick with riding inside at the gym until I get much closer to my goal. Last time I was doing good with riding on the recumbent, my weight loss stopped as soon as I switched to outside riding. He understands the time and effort I have put in to this so far and he understands why I need to do this. I know we are both disappointed, but this is a yearly ride and I fully plan to make outdoor riding my maintenance routine once I reach my goal.

On a positive note, I have started bike shopping for my youngest daughter. I know mountain bikes are the popular choice. However she wants to ride with me on the bike trails I would ride on. These are paved, and this guy doesn’t mountain bike. So, my bike is a road bike and there is no way I could ride slow enough on my bike to where she would not be still killing herself trying to keep up on a mountain bike. So, a few bike shop visits later I think I have found a small road bike to where we would both enjoy the ride. These rides would just be fun for me, not much workout value, but she will enjoy it immensely I hope. And I will find a second bike riding partner. The only problem is this style bike in her size is not something I can get off the shelf at walmart. And for anyone who has been to a bike shop recently, you know they are not cheap. So, I will be doing some online shopping to see if I can find one cheaper elsewhere. Or a used one.

Oh joy it looks like the rain is back. 2 inches yesterday was not enough I guess. I may be investing in a boat instead of a bike for my youngest. We can row our way around the neighborhood if this keeps up.

It’s a short one today. Have a great afternoon everyone.

Oh we will ride some and like I said, I hope to start breaking in my next riding partner. She loves to ride and I am sure she and I will have just as much fun together. And I am sure no matter what, he and I will ride as he gets older. Same with diving. We just may have to bring the bikes on the dive trips. :)

I completely understand. My boys are 22 and 24 and the times we get to see each other are further and further inbetween. It's such a balancing act. Doing what you need to do to take care of yourself and being there for the people you love. What about biking on the weekends with him for some "extra" exercise?

Ummmm, your welcome. You can have the rain back anytime. I think I am done with it. It was a hard decision to make. But my son understands. He is the one I worry about moving away. Since I have no clue what his real plan is for after high school, college or military, I don't know how many more opportunities we have before he stops being my my little boy and starts being a man. We can still ride, but it will be different. So, to give this one up hurts a little more.

Way to recognize what you need and know that when you are finished losing you can return to riding outside. We must be sending you all our rain, because it has been awesome here. Wow you are such a great friend to take that burden for me!!! :)
